Priority Repairs (Henry)

Peanut Butter and jelly never went bad.
Ames had to admit that he was pushing his luck opening the dusty jar he'd found in one of the disused footlockers of the BLU mens' barracks, but the tan-and-purple stripes in the jar still smelled enticing, and the Soldier figured a miscalculation here couldn't be any worse than the respawn-flu/fever he'd just finally gotten over. Five days that bullshit had lasted...

He remembered parts of it, in between the featureless pits of much-needed sleep. Sunlight through the bleached-out blinds. Sweaty, twisted sheets, and the stink of himself, not quite caring enough to move. The coolness of water from his canteen when he drank. He'd told someone to go to hell- ...Gerhard? Adrian, maybe?
Two days ago, he'd woken up and taken a hot shower long enough to unlock the knots in his shoulders, then raided the fridge. Today, Ames felt almost back to normal. The half-finished PB&J in his hand helped.

Stopping beside the partly open door of the Weapons Dev. lab, the Soldier heard a purposeful rustling of papers within. He knocked twice on the peeling door frame anyway.
"-Gears, you home?"

The rustling continued for a moment, uninterrupted, but the knock on the wall was enough vibration to dislodge a pile of scrap from it's position, sending the whole thing clattering across the floor. That was enough to dislodge the resident engineer from his work, and gave him enough time to notice the soldier waiting in the entrance to his lair.

Quickly shuffling his papers into a more or less organised stack on the drafting table, he turned on his stool to give the man proper attention. "What can I do you for, kid? Something new need fixing?"

One more project added to his ever-expanding list wouldn't be much of a big deal, at this point. The soldier did make him long for a sandwich, though, and now that he was disconnected from his project, he realized how long it had been since his last meal.

"No- -well uh, not so far as I know," Ames shrugged, "-if you weren't too busy I was gonna ask you about that sword you gave Niklas."
...Though from the look of the half-finished gizmos and plans strewn around this place, the Soldier wasn't exactly holding his breath. He took another bite instead, and then caught the Engineer's wistful look in the direction of his sandwich.

"Mh- -there'sh um- *ahem* -there's more'a this if you want," Ames offered, swallowing, "-an' I haven't gotten sick yet, so we might wanna run off a couple copies of the jar first," he added, after a moment's thought.
