Second Opinion [James, Gerhard, Open]

The first floor of BLU is a metallic mess of all the necessities to keep the base running. Cooking, cleaning, using the facilities, you name it! Just remember that you're in charge of your own Laundry.

Second Opinion [James, Gerhard, Open]

Postby Puffin » Sat Aug 25, 2012 8:53 pm

[This is a continuation of THIS thread.]

The trip to BLU had been mercifully uneventful. Slow, perhaps, but with one good eye between the two of them, a slow but safe trip without any incident or socipathic zombies was really all he could ask for. Niklas breathed a mental sigh of relief once James had announced they had arrived, and an audible one once his cane bumped the porch.

But the relief was not to last. James was quite literally falling apart, and there was next to nothing he could do about it. He wasn't even sure if there was much Gerhard could do about it, but it was probably more than a blind man. If nothing else he could give him a better visual on what was happening.

So he stepped up on the porch, gently tugging on James' suit to encourage him along. He hadn't been back here since before the respawn incident. But if he remembered correctly, the window to the infirmary was this way... It took a degree of feeling around on the wall, but to his relief he found he had chosen the right direction, and eventually his hand lay over a pane of glass. His hand balled into a fist, and he rapped on the windowpane rather loudly.

"Gerhard? Are you in there? It's Niklas. I need your help."

Gerhard was not expecting company today, but he was always ready for it. Surprise visits had become something of the norm as the numbers of his teammates slowly grew, and having Sykes back on base meant there was usually someone furry poking his head in or taking a nap in the back room.
But he honestly didn't get too many people knocking. Especially not on his window.

He looked up from the mass of paperwork on his desk, a brow quirking curiously.
"Come in, zhe door is not locked!"

warning: some The Thing stuff is going to happen

Postby Tentacles » Sun Aug 26, 2012 9:57 am

James hesitated. If their base was anything like theirs, it should be a clear run from the front door straight into the infirmary. The less people they had to run into, the better. Probably. And he certainly didn't want to have to explain why there were there to anybody but Gerhard. And despite the BLU Medic's lack of team spirit, there were definitely those at BLU who wouldn't agree to this sort of thing...

He opened the front door and waited for Niklas to follow. The bases were laid out almost exactly alike, and he found the infirmary door without much searching.

How do you announce yourself when you're falling apart anyway? Not like they gave the BLU any warning.

"Don't worry, its not contagious. I think."

"Was ist- OH MEIN GOTT!"
Gerhard lurched up from his desk, attempting to scramble backwards but tumbling over backwards in his chair instead, a flurry of paperwork and a pen following his decent. Some flailing, and he was upright again, eyes wide and horrified as he reconfirmed the situation at hand. In a flurry of motion, he bolted across the room to one of the cabinet, rifle through the contents until he came up with a couple disposable facemasks, quickly donning one himself and keeping one for Niklas when he noticed the RED Medic's presence.
"Ordnung, setz dich dort- Ah, go sit on a gurney please."
The TentaMedic couldn't help staring, eyes wide and tentacles writhing anxiously under him as he kept his distance from the Pyro.
He had no idea what was going on beyond the fact that the salamander was apparently ROTTING ALIVE and he really, really did not want to risk the spread of whatever might be causing the horrific display before him. Hopefully the Pyro wasn't in any pain...

Niklas managed to find his way inside and into the infirmary by a combination of the sound of squeaking rubber and keeping one hand on the wall (though he did manage to unceremoniously bump into the doorframe, a move that was mercifully lost in the severity of the moment). By the time he made it inside, he was about to explain the situation when Gerhard's cry of surprise and the sound of a chair slamming against the ground had him very nearly jumping out of his skin.

"Gerhard, are you alright!? What happened!?" He briefly turned his head in James' direction, giving the little pyro a confused 'what is going on?' face. But he heard the BLU medic get up and (apparently) start searching around for something and the direction to go sit on the gurney. It seemed like he had regained his composure and was ready to begin his work. It was comforting to know he had a resource like this, especially with his friend in such dire straits.

But even so Niklas couldn't shake the feelings of uselessness and helplessness. He still wasn't one hundred percent on how the whole thing looked (probably not good), he couldn't assist the other medic, and there wasn't much he could tell Gerhard that James couldn't explain himself. "I'm sorry. I should've warned you, but this all happened so suddenly, and there isn't much I can do for obvious reasons..."

Ouch. The BLU Medic's theatrical reaction stung a little. Not even when he revealed himself to the late Rufus did he get a reaction that...strong. Maybe he was even worse then he thought; he hadn't bothered looking in a mirror.

Still, he did as he was instructed, climbing up on the gurney. He couldn't help but rub his exposed socket with the back of his gloved hand, it still itched - weird that there was no blood. Well maybe Baron bon Freaks Out could help explain that. If he could. Get over here you pansy, Niklas even touched this shit and he didn't scuttle off in a corner...

Right though. No time to think (or speak) like that. He really didn't want to have to explain himself in detail again. "Right. Skin falling off. Toes falling off. Sick for a while. And..." he pointed to the socket with the fresh eyeball staring out from the depths. "Eye falling out. Any ideas?"

Gerhard watched carefully as the salamander moved, trying to spot any hitching or shaking that would indicate severe pain, only to be distracted by Niklas and his 'obvious' inability to help with the situation at hand. For all that he and Henry shared a wall, they hadn't really been able to communicate much lately, the Engineer busy with his repairs while the Medic was busy with all the stupid paperwork HQ kept faxing him on top of helping Sykes reintegrate into the team, so the news of Niklas' current physical state was not something that the tentacled hybrid was aware of.

He looked over with an openly bewildered expression, giving his fellow doctor a once over as he tried to figure out what was wrong.
"Nik, was ist- Oh..."
The other Medic's normally brilliant green eyes were dull, almost milky, and failed to focus on anything around him. The cane served as the unhappy proof of the big Swede's current disability.
Swallowing, the TentaMedic pressed a facemask into Nik's hand.
"You shouldt put zhat on."
He would ask later, but right now, there was a rotting salamander to treat.

Clearing his throat, Gerhard turned his attention to James, mentally jotting down the extent of the illness as the Pyro listed off the most notable symptoms. He cringed a bit at the thought that an eye had just come out, but he wasn't going to dispute it.
"Are you in any pain? Has zhere been any significant hindrance in mobility? Any fever, jaundice, apparent infection source?"
Idly, he wished he'd grabbed his clipboard, but he was at the gurney, and the clipboard was across the room on one of the counters where he'd been using it to take stock of the current medical supplies.

Niklas frowned at the obvious confusion in Gerhard's voice and the beginning of question. "Henry didn't tell you...?" he said, 'staring' at the other doctor for emphasis. But judging by how quickly the BLU medic cut himself off and handed him something, it seemed like he had understood, and was mercifully willing to wait till later to discuss that problem.

He briefly felt the object before realizing that it was a surgical mask. He wasn't entirely sure what good that would do at this point, since the awful smell would likely not be blocked by a thin layer of fabric. Still, he put it up to his face and tied it behind his head, closing his eyes and following the sounds of the voices to come closer to what apparently was the gurney.

He stopped a few feet away, not wanting to impede on whatever it was Gerhard would be doing. "From what James has told me," he said turning his head in the pair's general direction, "all of this has been entirely sudden, with no obvious cause." He had his own theories to what was happening, but he wouldn't say anything until later.

Still, he fidgeted with his cane, apprehensive about the whole situation, chewing on his lip before speaking up again. "I understand this is a strange request, but do you uh... do you think you could describe to me what he looks like visually? Whenever you have the opportunity, of course."

GEEBUS CHRISTMOOSE HOW ARE YOU CONSCIOUS JAMES

Postby Gerhard Melsbach » Mon Sep 03, 2012 3:53 am

The TentaMedic swallowed, visibly struggling for words to describe the utter MESS seated before them.
"Vell... In all honesty, I'm razzer surprised zhat he can even stand, let alone walk und talk, und zhe fact zhat he doesn't seem to be in pain is... Disconcerting."
Gerhard frowned, looking over to his fellow Medic then over to the Pyro.
"Ah, James, was it? Couldt you disrobe please? Ve- I need to see zhe extent of zhe damage."

MAGIC *snort snort*

Postby Tentacles » Mon Sep 03, 2012 1:51 pm

"Well it does hurt some, I mean, just on the crusty parts..." the salamander tried to defend his current freakishness. Somewhat.

Still, he did as he was told - on his body was much of the same pale and splotched skin, bits falling off in places. As he had said, there were three toes that had fallen off at the second joint, shortened down to a more appropriate length.

There was another development that had not been mentioned yet - the salamander's tail looked like it was rotten (more then what was already happening to the rest of him). In certain spots, the flesh had rotted right down to the bone. The tip had fallen off, leaving a trail of exposed vertebra and ragged flesh. Surprisingly it didn't seem to be causing any pain, swinging to and fro on the other side of the gurney.

real answer: because the plot demands it

Postby Puffin » Mon Sep 03, 2012 10:13 pm

The blind man was once again frustrated, fidgeting with his metal cane and frowning. "Look, I know it's bad." He was going to say something about how he had 'examined' the condition with his hands, but decided that would only slow down the process. "But I'm still not one hundred percent sure on what's happening, can you describe it a... nevermind," he sighed. It seemed rather futile to ask, especially considering that even if he did know what was causing it he couldn't do much to help the problem.

"Can you at least tell me what his eye looks like?" The fact that it had apparently fallen out was alarming, and was something that could be addressed first. Niklas waited for a response, the squeaking of rubber as the salamander undressed almost deafening due to a combination of his sensitive hearing and the tension in the air. Best to ask as few questions as possible and let Gerhard do his work.

Gerhard may or may not be having a hard time keeping his lun

Postby Gerhard Melsbach » Tue Sep 04, 2012 4:06 am

Gerhard felt his eyes widen as the full extent of the damage was revealed, and had to swallow hard when his sensitive nose picked up on the smell, tasting bile in the back of his throat.
A very long, very hot shower would be in order after this.
"Ah... Vell..."
He did his best to describe everything in as much detail as he could in the least amount of time, resorting to both versions of his medical training to properly put things into light.
"-Und his eye appears to be a complete avulsion of zhe globe, zhough zhe socket does not appear traumatized or ozzervise damaged outside zhe previously mentioned necrotic tissue."

Puff said to keep going without her for a bit

Most of the Medic's technical talk (okay, just about all of it) passed over the slippery arsonist's head. He waited for the long ramble of terms and descriptions to come to an end before finally clearing his throat.

"So...what does all this mean, really? Should I just take a chance and go through respawn? Or can you fix this? Wait hang on, ff...." the salamander started scratching his neck feverishly, sending sheets of sickened skin slipping to the floor.

Gerhard's eyes when wide at the abrupt sluffing of blackened, rotten flesh, the pieces scattering onto the gurney and onto the floor with sickly little splatting noises. He made a small choked sound, a hand lifting to ask the two REDs to wait a moment before he bolted for the back room as quickly as physically possible.

HÖRK

A moment later, and the TentaMedic was back, adjusting the facemask and looking a tad paler than usual.

Gerhard how dare u i own the vomit in this town

Postby Tentacles » Wed Sep 05, 2012 9:30 pm

When Gerhard returned he would find himself facing a slightly annoyed (and growing impatient) salamander, his arms crossed as he continued to scratch idly at the wounds on his sides. "Okay. We know. Its gross. Do you know what the fuck is happening to me?"

"Ahem, vell..."
Gerhard approached a tad hesitantly, feeling rather childish for having such a strong reaction to the Pyro's current physical state. Sure, he could deal with blood, guts and gore just fine, get in elbow deep and not even break a sweat. Moment something started rotting? Yeah, not his forte.
Swallowing hard, and cursing the fact that the only other medical professional around at the moment was currently blind, the tentacled Medic gently poked at what appeared to be the worst of the damage with the metal handle of a scalpel he'd removed the blade from, breathing shallowly through his mouth to prevent himself having another nausea attack.
"You said zhat zhis does not hurt, correct? Only zhese hardened parts?"

TENTY IT HAPPENED AGAIN SOMEONE GOT SICK IN OUR THREAD

Postby Puffin » Thu Sep 06, 2012 10:19 pm

[posting again cuz im a loose cannon admin who dont play by the rules]

Niklas gave a small smile at Gerhard's explanation, the lack of knowledge of what was going on during the exchange becoming rather frustrating once again. "Finally, a language I can understand." Even if most other people didn't. He had opened his mouth and was about to explain when the sound of something hitting the ground reached his ears, and then the sound of someone holding back bile and the rapid retreat of what could only be the BLU medic's lower half.

"James, what's going o--" he was cut short by Gerhard's retching coming form the other room. "What happened?" He asked again, much more worried. He could only assume that the little pyro had lost something else. Hopefully nothing quite so vital as an eye. "Look, do you really want to take chances with that machine? Look what it's done already. Let's see what Gerhard can do before we start talking like that."

The last thing he wanted was for someone else to go through respawn and end up like him. Or worse, like Rufus. And almost as if on cue, he heard the distinctive sound of tentacles slithering across the ground, heralding the return of said doctor. Once again Niklas stepped back and stayed relatively quiet, letting the conversation happen while trying to piece together a visual of what was going on.

James was going to protest Niklas' insistance that he avoid respawn again when Gerhard returned. Still, the Doc had a point - whatever was going on was not as bad as vanishing off the face of the planet.

The salamander remained still. No, it didn't hurt - but the tool's gentle tugging at his weakened flesh was enough to pry open a crusted scab and loosen its contents. The hardened hunk of gore released its cargo in a sudden thick spurt of pus and long congeled blood - thankfully not hitting Gerhard in the face, but splattering across the front of his uniform. "Uh...that's never happened before."

A moment's pause, and Gerhard swallowed audibly before taking a step back, face pale and looking like he was about ready to hurl again. He remained silent for several seconds, struggling to keep it together, before he finally spoke up, voice soft and a little strained.
"...I'm amazed you aren't writhing on the floor screaming in agony. I have no idea what's going on."
There were a few theories, ideas on nerve damage and Respawn glitches, but none of it was concrete in any way shape or form, and there was no real way to test the theories either.
