Disease (REDS should join in!)(Mini-event-ish)

There are two large rooms set aside for the barracks, one for girls, and one for guys. The girls side is connected to the upstairs bathrooms.

Disease (REDS should join in!)(Mini-event-ish)

Postby Rufus Schmitz » Wed Feb 08, 2012 11:48 pm

A solitary alarm clock ticked on, counting down each and every second. It wouldn't of been a problem, a minor background noise at best, if it seemed the constant ticking sound didn't seemed amplified to become a loud, bang drilling into his brain.

Rufus was in his bunk bed, the white sheets around the bottom bunk to keep gazers away from his secret of having a river dolphin tail. He had not yet moved to the Leader's Office quarters, not sure if he was to take the sleeping space or Aime' should. But that wasn't the point, the point was, here he was lying in bed, starring at a small opening in his cover towards a nightstand at his old alarm clock. Every little noise hurt, even the sound of his own, raspy breathing. If it was slightly too bright, his eyes would water and slam shut. Breathing was difficult, swallowing was difficult. Heck, just raising his head off the sweat soaked pillow proved incredibly painful.

As he lays there, starring at his clock, wheelchair nearby waiting for its owner to return back for a day of duty, he ponders. How did he get this sick? He had used nearly every kind of pill antibiotics the Medbay had, yet none seemed strong enough to counteract the infection he was not aware of how serious in his tail, covered in sores and split skin cuts.

Rufus's breathing wheezed in and out, each breath labored as he struggled. Skin looked paler than before and his eyes almost dull and lifeless. His hair, normally spiked up in that short faux hawk, was now flatten and wet from sweating all night. Just when it seemed things couldn't get any worse... Pain forced Rufus up and leaned over the side of his bed, releasing the contents of his stomach into a waiting bucket, already reeking from a earlier episode. Everyone else seemed to be minding their own business, he figured. Why should they worry about a sick medic who should have already healed himself by now? Rufus groans to himself, before forcing more blankets over him, trying to stay warm. Maybe for now... bed rest was all he needed? No one was going to think about him anyways...

Meanwhile, in the opposite lower bunk, Josif was feeling rather sick as well. While it didn't seem to be as serious as Rufus's infection, it was still damn horrible. The Soldier figured he must've gotten some nasty germs in his wounds in the fight against the swamp beast, and they hadn't dissipated from Respawn.

Josif's condition had barely improved from the start. The coughs were raspy and throat-cutting, and and an almost constant headache bore into Josif's skull. The medicine for the supposed flu only served to intensify the drilling pain in his brain, flooding the mind with pained memories and paranoid thoughts. He felt a lot weaker and took the proper time to rest, when he wasn't exhausted from his efforts at getting around where he shouldn't be. Strangely enough, though, was the fact that the disease seemed to be making no effort to get worse or spread around: a truth that had "problems" written all over it.

Maybe I should've just followed the advice from the start, Josif thought, but then again, that Sniper might've died out there in that trap. In fact, that very experience was what had the infantryman bed-ridden for the moment. But at least he could still get by, marginally: the Medic clearly wasn't faring at all better. Josif sat up, gazing at Rufus's convulsing form, and said quietly, "Jesus, you're looking awful."

Rufus barely looks up, wheezing a few times before managing to inhale enough air to speak. "Zhat's... an understatement." He barely whispers. Closing his eyes, he lets out the lungful of air before growing dizzy as he tries to bring back in oxygen. "Vhat... do you vant?" He managed to ask. Even though he was sick, the man still tried to hold onto his old, grumpy attitude towards everything and everyone here. He could start to feel a clear fluid dribbling down his left nostril, everything seemed to want to pour out of every exit. "....vater?" He suddenly whispered.

Josif wanted to shrug passively, but retained that notion. The Medic was trying to retain his grouch-like attitude, despite his possibly life-threatening condition, and additional reason for the attitude would just hurt the man(-dolphin) more. Rather, Josif followed with his intended reason for Rufus: "Just trying to sympathize. As bad as you look, I've been that way-" the Soldier exhaled a sharp cough, eliciting cringes from everyone, "...before... maybe worse. It's hell, I know."

As the infantryman finished, Josif noticed a fluid seeping out of Rufus's nostril, and heard his quick whisper. Crap, what about water? Did he need it, or was that what was coming out? Josif couldn't really tell, but thought it needed checking out. He hadn't caught any more germs out in the swamp, apparently, so this wouldn't hurt the Soldier too much. Josif threw off the blankets and aimed to climb out of bed, against the protest of his aching body.

Rufus snorted back in the nasal drainage. His throat and mouth burned, tasting stomach acid all day wasn't exactly pleasant tasting and he groans out painfully to try to rid the taste off. "Damn.... bitter taste." He heaves out. Despite before, nasal drainage continues to drip from his nose. The light ached his eyes as he tried to keep them close.

"I need... vater for mein throat. It burns." He says, barely a hoarse whisper.

Hopping into a pair of camo pants, Josif nodded to Rufus's weak form. He walked out of the barracks carefully and slowly, heading to the kitchen below. Their main reserve of water was filtered meagerly through partly clogged water drains, and still not may have been entirely healthy, but nobody had seemingly gotten sick from it yet, so it remained for the moment.

In a few minutes, Josif paced back into the room with a carton of water and a full glass of the same water. Rufus might need a lot of it, just as Josif did. Placing the carton on the nightstand beside the ailed Medic's bed, the infantryman gently pushed the class into Rufus's pale hands, then shielded a cough and stood idle.

Jericho thought nothing of it when the scarred Soldier came stumbling down the stairs and shuffled into the kitchen. The man had been sick for some time now, he was starting to get used to seeing the fellow dragging himself around out of uniform.
But then he got a good whiff, and jerked up from where he was lying, ears pricked and nostrils flared as he sniffed, brow furrowed in concentration.
Something didn't smell right...

He followed Josif back up to the barracks, fingers curled to keep his claws from clacking on the hardwood floor as he sniffed and snuffled, ears tipping further and further back as the smell that had caught his attention grew stronger. A foul smell, rotten and acrid with sickness...

The chimera pushed his way through, padding quietly after his coughing teammate and nearly gagging when he found the source of the smell. Swallowing hard, he came around behind the Medic's bed, sniffing at the blankets just to make sure and very nearly being sick from the smell that flooded his nose and made his eyes water.
Blood. Rot. Bile. Sick, just as he'd told the man in their last encounter in the showers, but so much worse.

He huffed, padding up to the doctor's head and resting his chin on the mattress.
"Told you."

He felt the cold sensation on his fingers. One eye barely opens as he sees Josif easing a glass of water to his pale hands. Slowly, the fingers tried to curl around, weakly at best till he grasp the waterglass. Never noticing Jericho had entered the room, it took some effort to try to stand up and even then, the pain that electrified his body allowed Rufus only a few inches off his pillow.

Quivering hands brought up the glass to his lips, and barely sips down some water. The sensation of cool liquid eased the scorched burning of his tongue and throat from vomiting earlier. But soon the German's strength couldn't hold past a third sip and falls back down, still holding the glass in his hands though it was clear his grip was slipping.

Rufus nods towards a second voice, hearing Jericho. He didn't bother barking back to tell him to go away, too weak to do anything at this point, his infection sapping his strength away each minute. "Ve're... out of ze... medicine needed... for zhis... infection." He weakly says after a minute of raspy breathing. "Been unable to... order more."

everyone in here is sick what the fuck and theres a dog

Postby Tentacles » Sat Feb 11, 2012 7:22 pm

Seemed like everyone was getting sick on the goddamn base.

The slippery arsonist stood in the doorway, one elbow leaning against the doorway, full uniform as usual. He wasn't about to offer his opinion on a quick fix for both the soldier and the Doc's infection (namely, an ax to the head and a quick trip through Respawn), considering how popular said suggestion was likely to be. Poor Ruf looked like he was knocking on death's door, and such a trip would probably be likely in the near future, with or without help from the arsonist.

But it was merely a matter of not having the right supplies, was it? Just get the Medic his anti-biotic and he'd be right as rain? A notably distasteful idea wormed its way into the salamander's mind.

He clacked his jaws together, hopefully drawing attention to himself. "Hey Jo', can I speak with you a minute...outside." The sickened Medic probably wouldn't approve of the idea he had...

Jesus, I can already tell this won't be a pleasing idea

Postby Penultimate Pi » Sat Feb 11, 2012 8:44 pm

Josif showed no surprise when the salamander appeared in the doorway and beckoned the Soldier outside. He nodded at the arsonist, heading over to the foot of the bed and saying, "Jericho, watch the Medic for a bit, alright?" A brief nod of what seemed like reluctant approval from the chimera, and Josif headed to his own bed, pulled on a shirt, and walked outside with James.

Closing the door behind him, the infantryman looked into the arsonist's eyes. There was that same hint of an idea that he saw at the meeting, but James's expression told him that the salamander didn't quite like the idea, either.

"I bet it's about Rufus" Josif thought out loud, a hint of grogginess in his voice. "Whatever idea you have, it'll likely be faster than waiting another month for new medicine. But it will be quite unorthodox, won't it?"

"No shit Solly." the slippery arsonist glanced around, as if to make sure no one was around. "Figure you might be on the level with this though."

"Its one thing t' go out and meet some BLUs t'do some monster killing." he whispered. "Its somethin' else to wander over and beg 'em for supplies. The Administrator could really have our heads for that." his eye membranes flicked down in a rapid, nervous blink. "The way I see it, they owe us a little favor after that whole turtle thing. You in particular." he smirked.

Josif couldn't resist cracking a smile. It was as simple as going up to BLU and asking for some medicine? Unorthodox, sure, but it was actually probably the best option they had, in all cases. "When you put it that way, it almost sounds easy enough. Almost," Josif said, dropping into a more serious tone for the last word. Though most of BLU did ally with Josif and James, there was no telling that there were more than just the Heavy, Scout, Medic and Engie. But the Engie in particular, Henry, was convincing enough that he would be all the two REDs needed.

"Any plans on when you're going out?" Josif asked. The monster might inhibit their progress, so it would be a good idea to bring along weapons for that- and anything else unfortunate.

"Soon as possible. I think though we oughta keep a...low profile on this one though. We dunno if that old fart is as BLU tolerant. Or anybody else for that matter." he scratched the back of his neck nervously. Extra fire power in the form of that damn killer dog and the other Pyro would come in handy against whatever creature was now slithering around in their swamp, but it wasn't worth the drama of asking.

Speaking of asking...

The slippery arsonist opened the door once more, putting on a nervous, jaw-boned smile. "Hey Doc, jus' tell us what it is exactly yah need."

Josif simply nodded. From his own experience, most of the other REDs weren't very tolerant of BLU, or anything having to do with them. Because it would just be the two of them, the Soldier and arsonist should keep a wide berth of the waters, what with that creature wandering about.

...And yes, know just what they were looking for would be a good idea.

Rufus didn't seem to respond to James. He laid there, wheezing in breath with his eyes closed. Thankfully the glass of water was placed on the nightstand before spilling it. It seemed quite some time went by as he laid there, but eventually he coughs and gasps in a dry breath.

"Anti-biotic. Ze kind in a syringe. Pills aren't nearly as... effective. Ve've been out since... Fall."

With that Rufus's strength lessens to where he's barely conscious.

Jericho couldn't help a soft whine, ears drooping in obvious worry as he shuffled around more towards the head of the bed and the doctor's pillow, his nose crinkling at the scent of sickness. The doctor-hybrid might not have been the best person, but he was a teammate, and one who's skills were unique on the team. Without him...
Bad things, even he knew that.

In a rare show of very human compassion, the chimera huffed through his nose before heaving himself up onto the bed, curling around Rufus' head to provide support and warmth for the sick man, his heavy tail hanging off the side of the bed.
He looked up when James poked his head in, an ear cocked to listen as the Medic tried to speak.
It was scary, hearing the normally active grump of a doctor sounding so very weak...
