Trained Monster (Jericho Intro, OPEN)

Where everyone arrives. Arrival is not team-separate, and we trust you'll be able to figure out which you're on. We send supplies plus purchases every month, on the first. The original dock was destroyed, and the current one is still only half-finished, so you're dropped off a bit of a ways up the bank where its safer to land. Just don't get lost.
The team Warehouses also stand out near here, or at least used to. RED's is the only one still standing, while BLUs seems to have been burned to the ground. Or maybe exploded. Or both.

There was a kennel on the docks.
It had been sitting there ever since that morning, when three crewmen had heaved it off their little vessel and simply left it there, a khaki-colored plastic kennel with steel grating for a door and the RED logo painted on its side, large enough to contain a small bear in relative comfort.
He came to with a soft groan, slightly nauseous from the sedatives still wearing off, and rolled onto his side, winding himself up in a tight ball, his heavy tail shifting in a lethargic manner to loop around his body. Urgh, they must have overdosed him again to knock him out faster...
A cool breeze wafted in through the grated door, and he shivered, voicing a soft hiss as he tightened his ball, limbs tucking close to his body to conserve heat as he huddled into the faint warmth of the blanket beneath him. Damn, was the sun going down already? Grumbling crossly under his breath, he sat up slightly to try and get a handle on his surroundings, nostrils flaring as his large ears swiveled forwards.
Dirt. Grass. Water. Rotting wood. Fish. Something reptilian he didn't recognize that was quickly lost to his senses, probably lived in the muddy-smelling water. Avian?
He gave a soft whine, straining to listen and scent everything he could, wincing as the motions of his ears tugged at his scalp. Crap, his horns still hadn't healed, had they. Would have to be careful to keep from knocking them around...
A few more moments, and he sighed, ears drooping as he huddled back down in his ball. It was really starting to get cold, and his stomach pitched in with the fact that he was getting awfully hungry too. Wasn't there supposed to be somebody here to let him out?

((Posted under the assumption that Molly is soon going to arrive and Arseni is following after him. Let me know if I'm wrong about anything, and I'll go back and edit.))

Word had gotten around that a new RED was due to arrive, and Connal had decided it was his turn to go meet them at the docks. Not having the slightest clue when, exactly, they would get there, he also found and brought along a fishing rod, and a couple of cans of spam for bait. Of course, it helped to have someone else tag along. If he brought his boombox, he doubted he would actually catch anything. Then again, none of the animals so far had seemed to be afraid of it...

He paused, squinting through the fog. Was that a box? The thing was pretty big. "You see that?" he asked, but continued forward without waiting for an answer. The large RED logo painted on the side brought some relief. "Oh, cool, it's for us." Although, it was starting to look like some oversized pet carrier.

(Look at me, being terrible about replying. Let me handle this.)

Arseni was left to drunkenly jog behind his friend. He'd never meant to be so slow, but he seemed to have a habit of nearly tripping over the loose, shoddily handled boards. He knew the base was slowly filling with REDs, but he'd yet to meet one. He was a bit afraid of the dock. Thus, he was practically pickled from all the vodka he'd steadily applied to his mouth. He was excited to try fishing, though. Even if his being drunk would only make that be even less successful. But, in any case, he stopped his speedy trod down the dock as he heard Connal. "Da." He offered, before realizing he was being left in the dust. He jogged some more. He wouldn't be left hanging!

The box's structure lent Arseni no help as he nearly ran into it. He grinned as he saw the logo. "Is from RED!..." He looked at it. "Vhat is?" He looked over at Connal. "...Vasn't ve supposink to meet new teammate? And fish?" He asked, adding the last idea on as an afterthought. He hadn't fished before. He was excited, if only in the way drunk people are when they hear about fun things.

Boat rides were nice. Even if they were in swamps, they were still nice. Molly just liked nature and outdoors and water. And the rock of the boat as well. Thankfully, she hadn't arrived with any other recruits. So there was no need for awkward small talk with strangers. It sure was a relief, Molly thought, and she was left to enjoy the ride alone.

The small ferry eventually neared a rickety, old-looking, rotten-wood dock. "Well so far I can see the 'swamp' in 'Swamprat.' Let's just hope I don't experience the 'rat' part." Molly said to no one in particular. Just because she liked animals, didn't mean she had to like them all. Speaking of animals, there was something that resembled a large dog carrier at the end of the dock, near where she would be getting off. "What in tarnation.." Molly loooved big dogs, large dogs, and huge dogs. But not dog giants. That thing could carry two humans if it wanted to.

As the boat slowed, and finally stopped at the dock, she noticed the two others standing near the kennel. One had a fishing rod, and what looked like a giant orange squirrel on his head. The other seemed to be a bit dizzy, and not exactly the most... Sober. Perhaps the carrier belonged to one of them, though she doubted it. They looked at it far more curiously than she did.

"Yo!" she rather loudly greeted them before jumping off the boat and onto the docks. "What's up with the doggie crate? One of yur pets? This one of those "pet friendly" bases I heard about?"

Hearing footsteps, the cage's occupant perked up, and he squinted slightly, nostrils flaring to catch the scent of those approaching him, and huffed in surprise at hearing a voice speak up practically beside him, leaning forward and glancing up to try and see the person he could smell.
It was a female, small and slight, but she smelled like gunpowder. Then there were the two males he could just barely make out, a stocky one that smelled like smoke and gasoline and another that made him snort from how strongly the scent of fermented potatoes clung to him.
But none of them were close enough to open his cage, and that was becoming a serious annoyance, especially with his stomach attempting to gnaw on his spine.
Huffing crossly, he lifted a clawed hand to paw at the grating of the cage door, ears pricked to listen for the strangers getting closer. Just a little more, two steps, come on, claws are too big to work this stupid lock!

"I dunno. Big," Connal answered the Demoman. He hadn't gotten close enough to see what was inside, yet. "An' yeah, our new teammate should be here any- oh, there... she is...?" So they got a little girl and a big pet? Okay, strange, but he could roll with it. The kid was probably just as tough and twice as crazy as any of them to apply for, and be accepted into, RED.

"Heya!" he greeted back. No point picking on her right off the bat. "Nah, I dunno. We just found it... here..." Claws sticking out the front of the cage? The Pyro had never seen claws like that, and wondered what kind of animal they would belong to. So he set the fishing pole on top and crouched down in front of the kennel. The shadows were a bit too dark to make much out, but it looked like it had horns. "Is 'is a ram, or somethin'? No, those don't have claws..."

[Sorry, been a bit busy. Arseni lacks much to say; feel free to skip him if the next circle isn't an unveiling of our favorite pet.]

Arseni peered over at the kid. He nodded to her, "Is not our pet." He was grinning at the girl, if only because he was bemused at her size. He understood it wasn't very nice
to judge a book by their cover, but he didn't care. He was drunk. He looked over as Connal became distracted from talking. "...Konnal?" He peered into the cage. "Shoult be openink? Or leavink in?" He asked, taking a swig of vodka. He wasn't much for self preservation, and failed to realize the thing inside could be so inclined to tear him up as much as it was a friendly dog or something.

Arseni wasn't the smartest drunk.

[I would've written more but I got stuck. :B I can't think of anything after this other than just opening up the door (which isn't my job :U). So yeah sorry this took so long & sorry it's not longer ;o;]

"Hmm..." Molly glanced back at the drunk man, staring and grinning at her. He was freaking her out a bit. "Eh.... Let's just open it." She walked around towards the front of the cage, next to Mister Mohawk, and observed the claws on the metal door. "That ain't no ram, I can tell ya that." Kneeling down, she put one of her hands on the paw/claw/hand of whatever was inside. "Doesn't feel like a dog either.." Actually, Molly couldn't tell what it was so far. Smelled like a dog, but dogs don't have scales, and the reptiles she could think of with claws this big wouldn't fit in a cage shaped like this.

{It's totally okay, the fact that you posted makes me happy :)}

There was a gruff snort from within the cage, its occupant shuffling forward slightly to peer out at the young woman with mismatched eyes, large bat-like ears folding back crossly as it looked between the three people standing so very close and not opening his cage.
"Not dog. Want out."
A short pause, brow furrowing. What was that word...?
"Please."
If he remembered right, that word was supposed to make people do the things you wanted them to, and he really, really wanted to be out of this kennel and in somewhere warm with food in his belly as soon as humanly possible. His stomach grumbled quite loudly, agreeing heartily with the sentiment.

The general consensus seemed to be to just go ahead and open the cage, and Connal agreed. Then it spoke.

"Whoa, what the fuck?" It was out of his mouth before he had any chance to think. He realized whatever was in there was probably like Riley, and decided it was probably a good thing that Tom wasn't out there with them. "Hang on, big guy, I'll getcha out," said the Pyro, reaching for the latch on the kennel. "Man, how long you been out here, anyway?" he asked, pulling the door open. Hopefully not too long, he couldn't imagine how much it would suck to be stuck in some small box and just left there to wonder if you were going to starve to death or not. Not to mention how uncomfortable it would be if you had to take a piss.

Mohawk started for the gate, and Molly was completely fine with letting him take this one. She wiggled over a bit behind him, and sat in a butterfly position. Her normal preferred position. Of course she would've opened up the cage herself, had she been alone. But she had heard the thing inside talk. He obviously wasn't a dog. Most likely a hybrid. And from her past experiences, if they had to be put in cages.. Well that usually meant they weren't the nicest of the bunch. If he was a rotten apple though, she'd be ready. She reached behind her and rested her hand on the handle of her shovel, just in case.

There was a grunt, and the cage rattled slightly as the being inside got to his feet.
"Dunno. Too long. Unconscious most of it."
Stepping out, the first thing the gathered few were likely to notice were the horns jutting out of scruffy brown hair, heavy and ridged and curving back between two very large almost bat-like ears, all surrounding a surprisingly human face. The hybrid glanced around a moment, ears flicking back and forth, before approaching the Pyro who had let him out.
Nostrils flaring, the strange patchwork creature sniffed at the man in the rubber suit, much like a dog meeting new people, then nodded and pulled himself the rest of the way out of his kennel, shaking himself out and flaring those uselessly small wings on his back before moving to stretch everything else. His back popped and he voiced a soft groan.
Ahh, so much better...
With all that done, his stomach decided to remind him and all those present that he had been stuck in a cage on the docks for most of the day and he was really very hungry.
Large conical ears flipped up and forward, the hybrid turning to the Pyro with a hopeful look.
"Food?"

Connal honestly wasn't certain what to make of the creature, and so just openly stared at him. It was like someone had decided Frankenstein wasn't creative enough with only using human body parts, and then had gone overboard. The comically small wings seemed like they would be more annoying than anything. His eye was then drawn from simply how the creature looked to how it behaved. He stretched, he shook, his ears ears flicked every which way, he sniffed people... When he suddenly looked up and begged for food, the Pyro was instantly reminded of a dog.

"Yeah, I actually do got somethin'," he replied, setting the fishing pole down on top of the crate for a moment. He pulled out one of the cans of spam he had brought for bait, and popped the top open. Then he knelt down, and placed the open can of food in front of the friendly-seeming creature. "Wha's your name?" he asked. "I'm Connal." At least that way he was telling the new girl his name, too.

{I'm tired of this sitting idle, we can resume the normal posting once everyone's more active}

Nostrils flared, and the strange hybrid immediately homed in on the food, ears pricked forward as he turned to see what was being offered, waiting patiently for the can to be opened before he moved in to start eating, forked black tongue flicking out to taste the processed meat and then licking at it furiously, unable to actually get a bite due to the can's size. A clawed hand lifted to wrap around the Pyro's wrist, holding the man in place with weight alone, no grip involved.
He paused when he realized he'd been asked a question, tongue half out his mouth for a moment before he pulled it in, sitting up a bit and licking his lips, a good quarter of the can already gone.
"Jericho."

((Amen to that))

Connal grinned; he couldn't help it. Nor could he help reaching a hand out and patting the creature on the head, even after it spoke again. "Jericho, huh? Well, welcome to RED Team, Jer!" he greeted. "Same to you," he added, looking over his shoulder to Molly.

{A reply is a reply, no matter the length.}

Ears flopped out of the way as the Pyro reached forward, and the hybrid gave a soft huff as his hair was ruffled, though from the way the tip of his tail had started tapping, the petting was quite enjoyed. But the hand in his hair only had so much space, and it was only a matter of time before his still-healing horns got bumped.
Jericho went stiff, claws on both his hands and paws digging in as he grit his teeth, wings folding tight to his back as his ears went flat.
"Don't touch."

The Michigander jerked his hand back, slightly startled at the change in attitude. "...Your horns hurt?" he asked, looking to where his hand had last been. While there were plenty of human qualities to Jericho, Connal still couldn't help thinking of the hybrid as more a dog than anything. When animals were hurt, they tended to be more aggressive. "Maybe we can get some painkillers for you from the doc!" he declared. Then, the Pyro remembered something about their Medic. Something important. "Oh... Oh, wait. Tom, our Medic, he... He, uh, doesn't really like hybrids." This was going to be a bit more problematic than he had thought.

Huffing through his nose, the hybrid ducked his head out of harm's way, releasing the Pyro's wrist to rub tentatively at the horn that had gotten bumped, just to make sure it hadn't started bleeding or anything. If one looked closer, it became obvious that the chimera's horns weren't exactly all attached just yet, the skin around their bases reddened and slightly swollen, though the left one looked a bit more red than the right.
"Is fine. Will stop eventually."
Jericho dropped his hand, glancing over to the female and the drunk before looking back to the Pyro. Connal. Yes, Connal. He'd have to remember that...

They'd have to be careful. Tom wouldn't want Jericho in the base at all. Wouldn't want him anywhere near it, for that matter. It sure wasn't going to be easy to keep something this big a secret, though... "Hm? Oh, it's back that way," he replied, jabbing a thumb behind him. "We were gonna go fishing, but if you want I can take ya back there, first. We just gotta be... uh... quiet, alright?"
