Lost and Found [INTRO_CLOSED]

Where everyone arrives. Arrival is not team-separate, and we trust you'll be able to figure out which you're on. We send supplies plus purchases every month, on the first. The original dock was destroyed, and the current one is still only half-finished, so you're dropped off a bit of a ways up the bank where its safer to land. Just don't get lost.
The team Warehouses also stand out near here, or at least used to. RED's is the only one still standing, while BLUs seems to have been burned to the ground. Or maybe exploded. Or both.

Lost and Found [INTRO_CLOSED]

Postby SGT Sykes Abernathy » Tue Jul 17, 2012 1:09 pm

Telling the time of day or night was difficult this far out. Everything was dark. Murky. Covered in filth, sludge, slime, and mud. The fog was still as thick as ever, at least since the last time he remembered seeing it. When was that? Oh, right. A couple of weeks ago. Honestly, it didn't feel like it. Felt longer. But staying out in the swamp for so long could mess with the senses. And for now, Sykes didn't care how long he had been out here, he just wanted out. He wanted to see that damn, dinky looking base with all it's dust and hazards. He wanted to see the faces of all those useless team mates. He wanted to eat the half-eroded chunks of MREs that had been sitting in the kitchen for who-knows how long. The Soldier just wanted something familiar, anything, to cling to at this moment in time. This constant trek through fog and mud was driving him mad.

Cursing under his breath when he swears he's passed the same wilted looking tree with it's dangling vines, Sykes stops trudging forward. He looks around before feeling his ears flatten against his head in defeat. The humidity was killing him and he couldn't stop his mouth from opening to take in dank air into his lungs. His tongue peeked out some as he panted, shoving a hand under his helmet to rub at his hair and fur. Why couldn't he find the bases? Where was the docks?

"Haagh...Haah...."
He panted quietly, pausing to swallow before resuming as he looked left then right. "Hey. HEY! HEEEY! ANYONE! ANY BLU! IS ANYONE OUT HERE?! Wha-WHERE AM I?!"

A predatory prescence was creeping through the swamp, seeking hapless prey. It had already managed to impale a victim and was dragging its kill around like a trophy.

Okay, so it was just Crabs. He had managed to skewer a sleepy possum and was parading the corpse around on his tail like a gruesome car antanne decoration. Okay, that was a lie too. It was just stuck. He could probably get the tentacled man to yank it off for him.

"Hey. HEY! HEEEY! ANYONE! ANY BLU! IS ANYONE OUT HERE?! Wha-WHERE AM I?!"

"Stop shouting!" a voice hissed from the ground as a pair of claws poked at the wolf-Soldier's leg. "You're in the SWAMP." the former Spy seemed exhasperated - was this even a SERIOUS QUESTION...

He didn't expect to be answered. Didn't expect a reply so soon. Or so close. At the prod at his leg, Sykes jerked his leg back, raised high as if ready to stomp whatever had touched him to dust. The sudden movement causes the fog to rise and dissipate a little, revealing a rock-looking thing. ....with claws and a--tail? The Soldier took a step back, lowering his leg when he felt the automatic rise in his fur just under his jacket. It seemed to be the automatic response to anything not human. He swallowed and stared at the thing speaking to him--or had he imagined that? Was he going crazy? He was seeing things; hearing things even!

"It's happened. I've snapped. Damn swamp. GOD DAMN SWAMP!"
He pushed his hands into the side of his head, palming over his ears--clearly thinking that his mind was creating something for him to talk to. Ignoring the fact that it really could be someone else there. "I'M HEARING SHIT!"

"STOP SHOUTING!" it seemed the best course of action was to FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE. A steady, warbling growl eminated from the rock/shell at the Solly's feet as it backed up, its tail waving menacingly (or as menacingly as it could manage with the possum swinging back and forth like a fuzzy dead flag).

Still, the crazy Soldier thing might have cigarettes, so it could be worth attempting diplomacy.

"Down here down here down here! NOT A THING." the Crab stood up as high as it could manage. It gripped the edge of its shell and tipped it upward like one might do with the brim of a hat, revealing its mouth of fangs and eyeless sockets.

If that helped or not remained to be seen.

There were more words and Sykes tried to shut them out, squeezing his hands harder against his temple. The voices will stop. They usually did if he drowned them out long enough. But despite his best efforts, his sensitive hearing still picked up the shouting voice near the ground. Why-why a boulder-crab-thing? It would have made more sense for his mind to make the trees talk, or maybe even the vines to twist into jeering faces. But this-... It was almost too surreal to even believe that his own imagination would go that far.

Which got the Soldier thinking. Which was never a good thing. And he chanced to look back down, but immediately regretted it. Not only had the thing moved, but it had moved to stand some--and in doing so, revealed a face only a mother could love. Whatever control Sykes tried to have on his fur seemed lost suddenly as he puffed up like a cat, jacket moving as the fur rose under it. His lip curled back to bare fangs at the creature and he took another step back. He should kick it.

'Kick it. Kick it! KICK IT!'

Sykes grimaced at the voice in his head that tried to drown out all other thought. "WHAT IN SAM HILL ARE YOU?"

Crab football!

If the Crab had any eyes that were capable of rolling, he would have rolled them pretty goddamn hard. "A SSspy!" he rasped, as if this were clear as day. He let the shell fall back down over his face again. Crabs hadn't quite been able to see the wolf-Solly's impressive intimidation display so well, and he started tilting himself back and forth as each unblinking back eye had a gander at Sykes.

"Question is then: what are you?" he concluded, nodding.

"...do you have any smokes?"

Fortunately, the strange crab creature wasn't the only thing attracted to the wolf's yelling, a bald gray-skinned head popping up from under a dark feathered wing. Beady black eyes quickly surveyed the surroundings, and Argent started off through the trees, hopping off his perching log to go find out what was going on.
It only took a short bit to reach the source of the panicked noise, glimpsing faded, muddy BLU through the branches and the glint of metal.
Hmmm, looked like that funny crab-thing had found it first...
Clacking his beak, the giant condor paced up behind and to the side of the furry Soldier, feathers fluffed in an attempt to be 'cute' and non-threatening. Harder to pull off than it seemed, especially being so big.

Gonna need therapy

Postby SGT Sykes Abernathy » Tue Jul 17, 2012 2:07 pm

A spy? A SPY?! This little...Whatever-doodad was a Spy?! Well, now his mind was just fucking with him and he had a good idea of how to get rid of a problem. But if this... imaginary little thing could somehow at least point out the way to base, he'd reason with it. However... reasoning with spies were not his best skill. And unfortunately for the crab-spy, Sykes had no volume control over his voice.
"What am I? WHAT. AM I?! I'LL TELL YOU WHAT I AM, SALLY! I'M A GOD-DAMN SOLDIER SENT BY AMERICA ITSELF TO DEFEND THE--... the..."

His ears twitched back under his helmet, alerting him to something nearby--and he was going to have to see a Medic about how much his fur seemed to spasm, nearly popping a few joints out of place by just the pure rigidness that set in. Slowly, Sykes turned his head, but suddenly coming face-to-face with a bird.... Thing. Another thing! No, no, no. His mind couldn't pull this off-it wasn't that elaborate!

"GOOD GOD-DAMN IT TO HELL!" he hollered, jumping back to put distance between the two of them, back-pedaling till his feet were inches in water. "WHERE ARE YOU COMING FROM!?"

Not to far away from where the solly-wolf was being greeted by the "local wildlife".... a singular bang echoed through the trees and a flock of scarred egrets cried overhead. From the direction.. was Enrico.

The man was on his back, eyes wide in shock and surprise all the while, heaving his chest in and out like he had just ran for miles. Truth be told, he was just shocked at the fact he managed to shoot down a feral hog. A big boar at that. Enrico had been checking on some alligator traps closer to shore near a new hunting spot after his old spots seemed to clean out of gators. This new area was unfamiliar to Enrico. What should of been a road from an old logging company that would often supply wood for the bases, was now thick and overgrown. Here, the hunter thought of placing fresh traps, only to find those traps raided somehow and old leftover meat gone.

So it was a big surprise to him when the boar came out of nowhere, rutting in the mud looking for anything, including stripping the meat off the alligator traps (pigs were smart like that), and become spooked by seeing the hunter. It decided to charge at him, and Enrico backed away in surprise, only to trip up on a exposed root and fall, shooting the feral hog in the face. The big rack of meat on legs crumbled to the ground. "Holy fuck..." He mumbled, trying to calm down. Well... looks like BLU can eat something better than alligator, catfish, or rabbit everyday. But he'll need help hauling the massive beast back.

Perhaps luck would be on his side. Enrico paused, hearing something behind him... sounding like someone in trouble. Turning towards the sound, he calls out. "HALLO!? ANYONE OV'R THERE? YA NEED ANY HELP?" He remembered hearing about BLUs that once frequent the base but disappeared... maybe this was one of them? "ARE YA A BLU MEMBER?"

OH GOD that was a GIANT FUCKING BIRD. Crabs hadn't been exactly introduced to Argent either, and his senses just told him that LARGE and PREDATORY were advancing on him and the wolf. He withdrew, hissing and spitting like a broken bag pipe full of slime.

But then the Solly walked into the FUCKING WATER. This was just getting worse and worse.

"NO NO NO NO NO!" the Crab shrieked, waddling to the Solly. "The water's bad! Get out of the water!!!"

The giant bird cocked his head at the crab, clacking his beak before stepping past the hybrid towards the water and the Soldier. And the other voice. While the crab may not have known, the bird had been watching from the trees when the two teams worked together to fill the flippered blind monster full of holes, and he knew the Soldier was in no danger from that beast. A gator or a snake, maybe, but those were easy to deal with in comparison.
He churred low at the furry Soldier, getting a good look at the bedraggled man before stepping off towards where he could hear the Sniper.
A moment to listen, and he called out, the sound he made a loud rattling hiss-whistle that would undoubtedly attract attention. Sure, not exactly a standard sound for his species, but he'd been messed with physically and he was smart enough to teach himself new noise, so it wasn't so far fetched.
Beak clacking again, the bird turned, looking over both wolf and crab, and sidled around the Soldier to nudge him towards the Sniper and the BLU base, ignoring the panicking shelled imbecile.

EVERYONE IS A THING

Postby SGT Sykes Abernathy » Wed Jul 18, 2012 12:01 am

The sudden shouting from the crab-like person was the last of his worries, the murky waters splashing just around his ankles as he kept distance between them. He'd have made a run for it, maybe having a better chance running off his own again when he heard a voice. A God-damn normal voice somewhere nearby till he saw a man-thankfully dressed in bluish tint-stumble out of the undergrowth. It was like seeing the sun for the first time for a blind man, and Sykes let out a exhale of relief. He looked to the other, a thankful smile on his face and he was about to call out to him about if he was seeing all this shit he was seeing--

The large bird's beak nudged his arm to try and push him to the Sniper, as if trying to show him the way out. Unfortunately, the quite-confused Soldier didn't take it that way. Quick to action and having something so large and abnormal touch him without his consent, Sykes reacted purely on instinct. In a quick flash of seconds, the Soldier curled his hand into a fist, hugged it close to the opposite side of his torso, before letting it reel back--the back of his fist connecting with the inquisitive bird's beak. A normal man's punch might not have been able to cause much damage but Sykes was packing a little extra mutated strength within him.

He was quick to trek backwards more towards the human voice, hissing at the large bird to make himself appear dangerous and unapproachable.

No reply. Maybe he was imagining things. Besides, Enrico had a boar to haul back. "Huh... Maybe it was mah imagination. Could of sworn he heard someone call out. Perhaps he should shout one more time. "HEY! IF YER OUT THERE... SAY SOMETHIN' SO I KNOW I AIN'T HEARIN' SHIT!" Enrico cried out.

Waiting for an answer, he stepped back to go about cleaning the pig out to help lighten the weight and keep the meat from becoming too gamey and then no one would want to eat it.

The strike to the beak caused the giant bird to squawk, not in pain, but in surprise, not having expected a blow when he was trying to help. It didn't hurt, the hard keratin very good at protecting the underlying nerves and tissue, but it did catch him off guard.
Argent straightened, shaking his head in a confused manner, balancing on one foot so he could use the other to make sure there would be no bruising or sensitivity in the future, then turned to the Soldier with a vaguely irritated expression. One that was likely to be determined to be angry when the condor hissed back at the furry infantryman, closing the distance between them to shove the man towards the yelling with a muddy talon.
If the Soldier didn't want to cooperate, fine, but the base was that way, and people were that way, so the furry man needed to go. That. WAY!

His ears flick back again at the shout, taking the quick chance to take a quick look over his shoulder. His attention snapped back forward though at the squawk and hiss, seeing a large clawed foot raise in front of him. More steps were taken back in the water, pantlegs growing wet as the water came up to his knees. But that was the last of his concerns. Sykes wasn't the type to back away from a fight, but being lost for weeks and hearing his only chance to find normal people again, he turned tail.

The BLU turned away from the giant crustacean and bird, ran from them. Days alone with nothing but the fog and swamplife to be his company, he wanted to see a normal face. Another soldier of the war if he was lucky, someone who could guide him back to his troops or just out of this crazy place in general. He ignored the screeches in the back of his mind that told him to turn back and fight. No. No no no no no. He wasn't at his best. He was tired, hungry, wet, and on the verge of tearing off his own fur.

His head snapped up when he heard the voice again, closer. Sykes pushed himself to his limits, trying to claw his way through vines and thick mossy growth before falling to his knees in a small clearing, panting heavily. He looked up, nose assaulted with the smell of blood--it was enough to make him sick, but it only made his stomach growl hungrily.

"You..." he stared, panting when he got a look of another living being. Thankfully human in design. "You... Do you know--Where we're at?"

Puppeting Enrico from now on

Postby Gerhard Melsbach » Sat Jul 21, 2012 5:01 pm

The abrupt rustling and crashing from the surrounding wilderness had the marksman on edge, and that sharp hissing noise got him to his feet with his knife brandished, eyes darting warily in search of motion. He just about shat himself when something bulky and vaguely BLU-colored came crashing from out of the wilds, taking a step back to put the corpse of the gutted boar between himself and the stranger.
"Who's askin'?"
If not for the uniform, he would have either run off or stabbed the guy already, but he remembered overhearing things on base about missing teammates, so he was going to give this stranger the benefit of the doubt.
For now.

The question had caused the Soldier to growl in annoyance, pulling his head up from where it hung to give whoever it was a mean glare. This was a battlefield, not a court room; answering questions with more questions. A muddy hand raised to wipe at his eyes to get a better look at the BLU. The uniform and stench gave away the class though the smell could be coming from the beast he had just slaughtered. Sykes was betting it was coming from him though.

"I'm--I'M FIRST CLASS SERGEANT... SYKES ABERNATHY OF THE DAMN BLUS, THAT'S WHO'S ASKING--NUMBNUTS," he panted out with whatever wind he had left in him. Christ, he just wanted to see the base again and pass out--well, maybe a shower first.

Yeah, definitely a Soldier with that bluster.
The Sniper frowned, lowering his weapon as he took a slight step forward. He hated to admit it, but the name sounded vaguely familiar, like he'd read it somewhere or overheard...
"Well, dunno about you bein' a sergeant anythin', but y'definitely got the right uniform. Fur's different, though..."
A pause, and the knife was wiped off and sheathed, the marksman striding forward to crouch down beside the weary traveler, unaware of the beady black eyes watching him from overhead. The hermit bird barely suppressed a pleased coo, happy to see the lost one getting help, and stood quiet and still while the Sniper helped the Soldier to his feet.
"Ugh, y'smell like a wet dog. Hope y're alright for a bit of a walk, cause I ain't carryin' ya."
Too bad about the boar, though, with his luck it'd be eaten by the time he got back to claim it.

Despite being dehydrated and close to over-heated, Sykes growls when he's helped back up to his feet. Begrudgingly he needs the Sniper's support or he'd fall back to his knees, but he's capable of walking with his own two feet.

"Make another dog comment... And I'll test if the respawn still works,"
he grunted thickly, trudging through the thick brush and mud. The idea of returning back to somewhere familiar kept his strength up, inspired a bit of hope in these dank swamps. Sykes would have interrogated the hell out of the Sniper had breathing not been difficult with how much moisture he's been inhaling ever since he had gotten lost the few weeks ago.

"Just sayin'..."
Enrico rolled his eyes, trying not to make a face at the feel of damp cloth and fur against his skin as he got the Soldier's arm over his shoulder. Funny, guy was awful short for a Soldier...

It took a little more than 20 minutes to get back to base, a distance the Sniper would have been able to make in 10 on his own, but he had an exhausted furry lump with short legs to half-carry, so it was slow-going. As they got within shouting distance of the batter blue-grey building, Enrico took a breath, raising his voice in the hopes that someone would hear and get this furball off his hands.
"HEY! ANYBODY IN?! GOT OURSELVES A LOST ONE!"
Inside, a certain tentacled Medic jerked up in his seat with a startled snort, paperwork sticking to his face a moment before falling loose. He frowned a moment, not entirely sure what had woken him up at first, but then Enrico was shouting again.
"NEED SOME HELP OUT HERE!"
Gerhard lurched up out of his chair at the hollar, almost tripping over his own limbs as he rushed for the door, pausing only to pull on his gloves and grab his kit before rushing out in the direction of the Sniper's voice.
