Falling Out of the Sky (Intro, Open!)

Where everyone arrives. Arrival is not team-separate, and we trust you'll be able to figure out which you're on. We send supplies plus purchases every month, on the first. The original dock was destroyed, and the current one is still only half-finished, so you're dropped off a bit of a ways up the bank where its safer to land. Just don't get lost.
The team Warehouses also stand out near here, or at least used to. RED's is the only one still standing, while BLUs seems to have been burned to the ground. Or maybe exploded. Or both.

Connal just stood back and watched as Nik and Jer worked. He'd probably just mess something up, so he figured staying out of the way was the best idea. It didn't feel like anything was much different when they were done, however. At least the Pyro could help in getting the octo-dude outside.

"Sure thing, Nik," he replied, giving a small wave after the Medic. He wasn't sure about leaving the poor guy completely alone after all the shit he'd just gone through, though. Apparently Jericho had other ideas. "Okay, okay, let's get somethin' to eat," he said, caving without protest. No one could stand up to that chimera when he pulled out those puppy-dog eyes. "I'm thinkin' stew. Sound good?" the Pyro asked, now heading back inside. Maybe he'd make a little extra to share with their new guy.

Anu came with a certain tolerance to sedatives; to a point. As before, he woke up and his fuzzy mind explained why he could feel moving air, which was the first thing he was aware of. It wasn't often he came out of a drug haze outside of water, all locked away before he could wake up. So he was not locked up.

This deduction continued; he wasn't restrained, some small movement determined, the surface scratched his skin pleasantly, he could hear life. He could smell it, too.

Then he opened his eyes. At first, it made no sense; he might as well be looking at the surface of an alien world. Gradually, very gradually, with a glassy-eyed stare out at the swamp, Anu remembered again. He could feel the drugs heavy in his body, like weight holding him down in a sprawl. On this... deck.

Those people were here. They'd brought him here somehow after they caught him, possibly some medical attention judging by how not almost-dead he felt, then... left him outside? Why go through the trouble? The gears moved as he tried to reason this out in the clearing haze of his thoughts, but felt far too sodden to do anything.

Stew (oh so delicious stew) was twenty minutes gone by the time the new hybrid woke up, and Jericho was napping on the couch, enjoying the last little bits of sunlight that came in through the window before the sun went behind the trees again. A large ear twitched at hearing movement from outside, and he paused a moment before sitting up, leaning back to look out the window.
Ah, looked like the new guy was awake.
A moment to check his surroundings to see if anyone else had noticed, and the chimera huffed, hopping down from his sunny spot to trot out to the porch, sitting in the doorway to watch the newcomer start coming around.
"Lucky to be alive. Monster almost got you."

A bowl had been set aside specifically for the new hybrid, and while it was more than likely room temperature by now, room temperature still was at least ninety degrees, so it probably wouldn't be too bad. Connal had been relaxing next to Jericho, nodding off for an occasional light doze here and there, and the chimera's departure fully roused him. Instead of heading straight out to the porch, however, he stopped off in the kitchen first. He needed to get that bowl of stew.

That was... not a person.

Anu's limbs crept back, spreading out and pulling him closer to the railing. He watched the odd not-person all sideways, head still laying on the deck as most of him slid into a better defensive position. So they had an experiment here, too, that was... odd.

It all came down to what the fuck?

He couldn't work out what was going on, which filled him with deep suspicion. It could be a trick. An elaborate trick. He had fallen for those before, if this all wasn't right... he wouldn't be caught off-guard again. Anu narrowed his eyes and wrapped a few limbs around pieces of the railing, pulling enough to test it. He could probably get through it, if he had to. But... this creature wasn't threatening him. Just stating the obvious. Very suspicious.

An ear flicked and a brow quirked, but Jericho didn't move from his spot. He knew better than to try and approach a strange hybrid that was obviously on the defensive. Probably would need to get in Connal's way to prevent mishaps...
"If you're thinking about going into the water, I wouldn't. That monster has pretty much full reign of the waterways, he'll eat you before you can get to shore."
Hearing boots, the chimera turned to look down the hall, smiling a bit at seeing his Master approaching with food. Though he'd been a bit disappointed that he wouldn't be able to have seconds, he knew the stew would serve a better purpose as an offering to hopefully soothe the agitated tenta-class.

Connal grinned back at his chimera buddy as he neared, stepping carefully around him (and his tail) to get on the porch. "Good to see you're up," he greeted the octo-dude, being careful not to speak or move too quickly. "Jericho here," he began, giving the hybrid behind him a nod with his head, "He was worried about you, but I knew you'd be okay. If you can go through a plane crash then tussle with that big ugly monster and get away with your life, then you could handle bein' stitched back together." Thinking the guy might still be a little wigged out, especially since he was recovering from injuries and drugs, he stopped a little ways outside of arm's reach. "Brought you some stew," he offered, holding the bowl out in front of him.

Perhaps he had crashed on another planet. It would explain a great deal.

His lips pulled up to show his teeth, but... they didn't seem particularly interested in overt threats. There could be other threats, many, many other kinds of threats. And things could quickly turn back to overt threats at any time, he suddenly had not a clue what to expect coming out the door next.

Lucky for Jericho, Anu wasn't interested in soup. It didn't smell good to him; he sniffed and wrinkled his nose to convey as much at the offer. Well. Here he was on this deck surrounded by the most illogical kind of swamp-people. He knew that one had a gun, and with getting his head up off the wood something he hadn't gotten around to yet, he also knew he wasn't going to be outrunning any guns. More often than not being quick was his initial advantage, and he was feeling about as quick as that lazy water down there.

He didn't know, beyond all that, why he didn't really want to fight, and hoped they weren't going to start anything.

Either way, he needed to get up. So, having all these slow-moving thoughts in the mind of slow-moving Anu, he kept pulling himself back against the railing; then he shifted again, this time to sit himself up, one hand wrapped around a wood rung. And now he could take a proper inventory of himself too.. oh dear.

Jericho frowned at the attempted snarl, an ear flicking as he took a step forward, blocking the Pyro from getting any closer to the stranger. The rejection of the soup was both annoying and fantastic, because he'd get to eat it later, but the tentacled one was dissing his Master's cooking. Not cool, but he could understand it, knowing how the facilities liked to drug every bite of sustenance given to an experiment. The stranger didn't know them anymore than they knew the stranger, it was only logical to be wary.

Connal shrugged off the new guy's refusal of food, and just leaned around Jericho to set it down. "I know, not everyone likes spam much, but ya should eat somethin' soon, and that monster's makin' it so I can't fish." Easily, at least. There were always a few, more shallow ponds he could go to, but everything he could catch there was too small to make a meal out of. Even then it would be a bit of a risk.

Seeing that the tentacled man seemed to notice how bad off he was, the Pyro backed off for the moment, taking a seat in one of the deck chairs. "He's right, y'should take it easy. I dunno what you normally gotta deal with, but ya been through a lot in the past few hours, 'r so, y'know?" He sure seemed like a quiet guy, though. Come to think, Connal hadn't heard much noise out of him at all. "My name's Connal, by the way. 'N' like I said earlier, my buddy over here's Jericho. Can ya tell us your name?"

They kept talking, but it didn't explain anything. It was too much of a coincidence, just happening to fall right by a Company base, and one inhabited by another half-man, no less. He didn't like it, not at all. That there was an active lack of hostility was helping somewhat, but all this sudden freedom and casual aid was just too good to be true.

The other shoe dropping would probably come from these people, but he took a moment to take a close look at himself. What a mess.

He'd been through a lot in the last few hours? Oh that was putting it lightly. Anu met this Connal's eyes, glancing at Jericho with the introduction. There was one thing conveyed; he was listening.

Anu looked back at the water. It would be difficult to hunt, but he was craving something quite alive to fill his stomach.. but he just wanted to put his head back down. He shook it instead. No, he couldn't tell them what his name was.

With the bowl being set down, the chimera was immediately zoning in on the food, though he didn't dig in, not yet. He was going to wait for Connal to say okay first, because one never knew if the new guy was going to change his mind.
At the asking of a name though-
"Can't talk, Connal. Gills on his neck."
He'd seen it before in the facilities, and he'd only ever seen one who'd gotten through the procedure with it's vocals intact. The filaments and everything needed room to work...
The hybrid paused a moment, frowning, then looked over to the tentacled stranger.
"Can you write?"

Connal was confused at first when the stranger refused to tell his name, but then Jericho cleared that up pretty quickly. "Oh, shit, 'm sorry," he quickly apologized. "I only ever met one other tentacle-guy, an' he can talk just fine, so I didn't realize." Although, now that he thought about it, he wasn't sure where Gerhard's gills were, if he even had any. They could have been on his neck, for all the Pyro remembered.

A mental domino effect of thoughts and memories later, and the redhead chuckled. "Actually, the first guy I ever met at this base, he couldn't talk, either. Not 'cause he had gills, though. Not... I'm not really sure why he couldn't talk, come to think..." Well, it wasn't important. "Anyway, yeah, if you could write, that'd be great. I'd hate to keep callin' ya 'octo-dude' and 'tentacle-guy,' y'know? 'Specially since there's another octo-dude out here."

Anu slumped back against the wood rails, ginger hand over a crooked line of neat sutures. A little more information, that was... good. More surprising information; not only did the Company have projects they let loose out on bases, they had ones just like him that got to be outside. Not that he believed being forcibly turned from one thing into another thing would be all forgiven if they'd given him a less demeaning occupation afterwards.

He had to get out of here. It would be stupid, hanging around on property owned by the very people he was sure were going to try and scoop him up into a tank again. Regardless of what they were doing with Jericho here and whoever had extra limbs and a voice around here. Agitated, he kept looking around, trying to figure a way to get here to gone without being eaten by blind dinosaurs.

But he did answer their question, too; another shake of the head, no, he couldn't write. Not as such. But he had been known to doodle and create the occasional stick figure. Anu looked at one, then the other. They seemed to be unaware he was in trouble still; would it be better or worse if they were aware that he accidentally escaped from their employer.

Well fuck it, might as well do something else stupid today.

Anu pointed at the nearest RED logo, then at Jericho, then at the building. Then the same with Connal. When it got to himself, instead of pointing at the building, he slammed his hands down on the deck in a cupped shape, like trapping a bug or a rodent.

Jericho frowned at the negative reply to his question, ears drooping in disappointment. Well, unless somebody had the patience to try and teach the guy, getting a name was pretty much a pipe dream.
But then the tentacled stranger started gesticulating, trying to get something across, and the chimera took a step forward, squinting a bit as he struggled to see it all more clearly. Sometimes, being short sighted really sucked...
Unable to figure out what the stranger was trying to say, Jericho turned to his Master, whining softly as he looked up to the ginger, asking if Connal was able to understand what was going on.

Connal blinked. Even with the aid of roughly perfect eyesight, he didn't seem to be comprehending the point Anu was trying to get across. To his credit, he sort of understood the first two. "RED... Jericho... Base..." he mumbled, trying to think out loud. At least that way he could be told if he got something right. "RED... Me.. Base... RED... You... Um." His eyes widened, as he realized at least part of it. "Oh, you're from RED! Cool, I didn't know if you were RED or BLU, but Henry, he's a BLU Engie, he said you weren't BLU, and you had to be either RED or some kinda other place. I dunno how he knew you weren't BLU, I don't really remember what he said about that..."

But that wasn't the important part, he knew, and went back to trying to understand what this guy was trying to say. Brow furrowed, and with a slight frown, he copied the way Anu's hands were, hoping to figure it out that way. "Is, uh... No. Hmm. Was your last base... shaped like this...?" he guessed. Since Connal and Jericho both lived at this base, then the gesture might have something to do with wherever the octo-dude came from.

Shaped like... what? Why would he ever try to tell them what shape the building was? Not like he was really sure, he knew it had been underground, and he knew a little bit about where they were geographically, but that was it. Who cared anyway?

Frustrated, but oddly not so frustrated as he thought he should be, Anu gave Connal a funny look, trying to think of some better way to put this. Holding out his upturned palms, he wrapped the stretched, thin end of a tentacle around his wrists like manacles, pulling on his arms with it. Connal seemed to be the one in charge here, so he kept eye contact with him, trying to convey danger fear bad because they were going to come for him. And he had to know if they were going to help them do it.

The chimera was struggling to keep up with everything, his ears unable to decipher the motions being made into something he could actually attempt to interpret. Goddamn it, worst time to be near sighted... And color blind...
Grumbling irritably, Jericho attempted to shuffle a bit more forward, leaning in to try and see what was going on, forgetting that he was supposed to be holding the Pyro back from getting hurt in his determination to figure out what the hell was being communicated. Something about the base, if Connal's words were anything to go by, something about its connection to himself and his Master that didn't apply to the stranger...
He struggled valiantly to understand, squinting at the motions and blurred shapes that were beyond his range of visual perception. Okay, that looked like a tentacle, wrapping around... Hands? Wrists? Jericho whined in frustration, ears drooping as he mentally cursed his rather blatant short comings in this particular situation.

Connal gave an apologetic smile and a shrug. From the look on the guy's face, he had been incredibly off in his guess. Having grown up in a city, the next gesture he understood pretty much immediately. "Oh! You meant trapped, like a prisoner! Yeah, that makes more sense than where my mind was goin'." Poor Jericho, though. Maybe the should ask around, see if anyone couldn't help him with the eyesight problem. The Pyro then chuckled a little, having given himself a mental image of the chimera wearing specialized glasses. Then he realized laughing at that moment was extremely inappropriate. "Shit, no, I ain't laughin' at you, I was just thinkin' of somethin' else. It's not funny, nevermind, I'm sorry." Oh, and now he could feel his face heating up a bit, so he knew he was blushing. Damn it.

The Pyro cleared his throat, and then began with, "It's okay, Jer, jus'... lemme handle this one." He cleared his throat again, because wow was that awkward to laugh right after someone claimed to having been held prisoner, more or less. "But, um, yeah. If you need a place to crash and lay low, you're welcome to stay here. This place is kind of... unique, I suppose. I mean, like, there's been a cease fire here longer than I've been around, and I've been around longer than everybody else out here. Well, any RED, don't really know so much about the BLUs. Oh yeah, and some of the BLUs are pretty pally with us, if that lets you know anything about the level of monitoring we get. Y'know, none at all. So long as you don' try attackin' anybody, it'll be fine, no one'll care."

Anu pointed at Connal, yes, yes exactly that.

And he was exactly right. It wasn't funny. He sank back and crossed his arms, annoyed, but now reasonably convinced they were probably not out to get him at that particular moment. Alright. So that left him annoyed, but if this odd man was telling the truth, it really was some Company backwater? Zero monitoring?

He did pick up on the fact that it was RED he was so worried about, right? RED that he expected would come around to make a report on that crash, right? The burning... destroyed crash site. Hm. Thinking a little better, Anu put his body back down on the wood, palms down just in case he had to jump up quickly... if he could... probably not. He needed to get a more detailed promise about keeping quiet.

A hand moved out, mimicking drawing or writing on a page. Okay, he couldn't write, but he could do his best.
