Into the Hellhole (Adrian Intro, Open)

Where everyone arrives. Arrival is not team-separate, and we trust you'll be able to figure out which you're on. We send supplies plus purchases every month, on the first. The original dock was destroyed, and the current one is still only half-finished, so you're dropped off a bit of a ways up the bank where its safer to land. Just don't get lost.
The team Warehouses also stand out near here, or at least used to. RED's is the only one still standing, while BLUs seems to have been burned to the ground. Or maybe exploded. Or both.

Into the Hellhole (Adrian Intro, Open)

From the very instant the Demolitions expert set foot into the swamp, he knew something was amok. It wasn't the shades of the towering trees that blocked the sun, nor was it the rather foul odors and environment of the swamp. In fact, one could almost describe that as natural for such a mire.It was that there was no sound. No animals, no insects, no birds; not even the expectant whirr or clangs of machinery one may have expected from the secret base. Just the ever constant plodding of Adrian's footsteps along the riverbank.

Although it was actually getting a bit out of rhythm at this point: the Demoman had taken a moment earlier to unpack his typical 4-chamber grenade launcher. The ex-gangster had a feeling that he would need it, but against what he didn't know. Perhaps just as a defensive comfort until he got to the less-than-hospitable BLU base.

It also certainly didn't help in the matter that he was left to walk all alone in the swamp. Upon arriving by train, the boatmen that would've been present were nowhere to be found, their small shack adorned with an 'OUT TO LUNCH' sign erected over several days ago. Investigation later would discover a slew of hastily-filled resignation forms. For the moment, that left Adrian to wander along the riverbank, hopefully following it to the base. But progress on foot was quite slow compared to boat travel, and the Demoman was becoming ever so apparent to that fact. His gray eyes flickered with fatigue, and the rhythmic plodding of his boots in the wet earth had been gradually demoting into a drawled state.

Damn, he would literally kill to be in BLU base right now.

"Hey, kid!" Henry waved at the new arrival, standing well away from the bank. "Get away from the water before you turn into something's lunch!" He ran up to the boy and yanked him by the shoulder, dragging him away from the river. Once they were safely behind tree-cover, he pulled a great metal tube from his back, sweeping the area and waving it menacingly into the swamp.

"YOU'LL NOT HAVE ANOTHER MEAL OF US, YA BASTARD!"

Adrian heard the "Hey, Kid!" part, looked at the new voice's direction, and looked over the source. It was a rather skinny man in cerulean clothing (therefore confirming he was BLU, thank god) and an oddly shaped metal leg. Only half-registering the BLU's next sentence, the Demoman glanced at the water, wondering just what was in it. He said something about lunch, that would be nice...

And then he was pulled away from the bank violently, hastily dragged into the treeline by the flimsy-looking man. Shocked, Adrian just barely managed to keep up, keeping a grip on his duffel bag and grenade launcher. In the rush, Adrian's grip on the trigger tightened, hurling a bouncing blue grenade from the barrel of the launcher and into the water. An explosion sounded off, and a column of water and swamp fauna jetted into the air.

Once ("safely") behind the trees, the Demoman finally got enough balance to stand upright and shove the BLU a good meter away from him. "Jeez, man!" Adrian exclaimed, "You're treatin' me like I don't got a 'nade launcher right 'ere!" That metal tube and the incessant shouting made the other man seem absolutely ridiculous. It was someone human, at least, even if he was borderline insane.

(・へ・) you bastards i was hungry

Oh that goddamn engineer. That god...DAMN engineer.

The thing had been stalking the Demoman since his arrival. Dumb enough to be traveling so close to the shore. Clearly a new sack of fresh blood. Maybe even not in the respawn system yet, it wagered. Could keep the corpse around to rot and get soft...

Henry's outburst was bad enough, and gave the aquatic beast pause. Which was fortunate for our hungry friend. A massive explosion seemed to erupt right in front of its face, blinding and deafening the monster temporarly. When the ringing in its ears finally came to a halt (and alge and frog pieces stopped raining from the sky), its quarry was far out of reach. With the lingering stink of Engineer hanging in the air.

A rather large, disappointed 'wuff' sounded from the swamps as the monster surfaced briefly before vanishing into the depths once again.

"GAAAAHYABASTARD!" Henry let loose his net into the water where the great head had peered up through the surface, not really caring to watch, but hoping one of the weights hit it in the eye, or else that it ended up horribly maimed by the net's cutting edge. Turning back to the new kid, he pointed a lanky arm back at the water and fixed him with a concerned glare.

"You see that thing? That thing wouldn't use your little grenade launcher as a TOOTHPICK. Keep away from the water or you'll get yourself killed." Significantly calmer after getting the chance to finally use his beloved net, he rubbed his face with a hand, then reached down to his leg. popping open a compartment where a femur used to be, he pulled out a canteen of water and a chocolate bar. He took a swig off of the canteen, then tossed the candy to his on-looker. "Eat up. It's a ways back to the base, and we aren't stopping within range of that thing, which, since we're in a swamp in teh wet season, is damn near everywhere."

He closed the compartment, then started to walk, beckoning with a semi-limp wave. "Follow me close, and don't wander off."

Adrian flinched at the sudden whoosh of air from the tube, launching a net from it. So it was like one of them rocket launchers the Sollys carried? What was this guy doing with one?

Then he looked at the water and saw it. A large, almost island-like creature lurching out of the river for a brief moment. Brief enough for Adrian's sharp eye to see and his less-than-superstitious mind to freak out. "Th' flying hell was 'at!?" the Demoman shouted, not really expecting an answer. It seemed like the BLU was ignoring his speech anyways. When Skinny, as Adrian has nicknamed the man, made the comment about the grenade launcher, Adrian replied, "Look man, I appreciate you helpin' me and all that, bu' next time, just TELL ME there's a damn freak in the water!" his voice sounding rather exasperated.

Catching the candy clumsily, Adrian gave a curt nod to Henry's request and began mumbling something about "mining up th' whole damn lake" as he followed Henry through the swamp. So much for feeling welcome; at least this guy seemed pretty damn paranoid, but then again, who would be with that monster around? It still didn't quite justify the sudden action the BLU had taken up, to Adrian. After all, he a was Demoman. If the ex-gangster wanted to, he'd just stuff a ton o' tripmines into the water and let the beast blow itself up.

Of course, something told Adrian this guy wasn't keen to let that happen.

From the dark of the trees, a beast prowled. Weaving from hedge to hedge, it tracked it's target, eyes and nose locked on the bright blue clothing and the distinct smell of gun-powder. It moved loudly, quickly, not caring for stealth, as it preffered the excitement of a good hunt. It came from the distance, heading straight toward the jungle travelers. And then, it pounced.

One-hundred and fifty pounds of muscular dog landed on the demo's chest, pushing him to the ground and licking everything within reach. This attack continued, and would, until something was done about it.

Meanwhile, Henry giggled, and looked on.

Adrian had noticed the loud, bounding noise in the brush long before it hit him; unfortunately, he wasn't the best perceptionist. "Yo, Skinny-" the Demoman was poised to alert before being mowed over by the large grey dog. Breaking his fall, Adrian found himself instantly barraged with a flurry of wet lick and pieced together that this was a friendly dog. But he'd had enough surprises for today, and the fact that he wasn't ticklish reinforced that.

Pushing away the dog's head, Adrian glanced at the sniggering BLU and said, " 'ey, this yo' dog? I ain't feeling too keen with animals right now." While he waited foe Henry to respond, Adrian tried a whistling noise to get the furiously happy hound to attention.
