Coming Home (Intro, OPEN)

Where everyone arrives. Arrival is not team-separate, and we trust you'll be able to figure out which you're on. We send supplies plus purchases every month, on the first. The original dock was destroyed, and the current one is still only half-finished, so you're dropped off a bit of a ways up the bank where its safer to land. Just don't get lost.
The team Warehouses also stand out near here, or at least used to. RED's is the only one still standing, while BLUs seems to have been burned to the ground. Or maybe exploded. Or both.

Coming Home (Intro, OPEN)

The warped wood of the docks protested loudly under the heavy boots of the fully uniformed Pyro. The ferryman and his crew were more then happy to be rid of their bizarre passenger behind; his appearance was unnerving, and the constant prattling mumbling put them all at ill ease. After dumping him on the dock, they gunned the engine and vanished into the fog.

James couldn't have had less of a difference of sentiment, waving after the retreating boat. Ever since arriving in the area around Swamp Rat, the air was more humid, easier to breath. It felt like a blessing to be sent here after months in the acrid desert, and his lungs greedily savored the moisture. Maybe he could even take the filters off his mask...

The Pyro did not immediately seek to find his base. He didn't want to leave the swamp just yet, fascinated with its muggy novelty. The slippery arsonist set down his slightly scorched suitcase and sat on the dock, legs swinging over the edge. They could wait a little longer for him, he figured, watching the black waters of the swamp.

Home. It felt like coming home.

He'd been out wandering, something that was becoming more frequent as the ceasefire continued, and he was heading home when he noticed the person sitting on the dock. Recognizing the familiar mask and bodysuit silhouette of a Pyro uniform, broad conical ears flicked forward and Jericho voiced a happy bark, picking up the pace to a healthy trot as he went to meet who he thought was his Master.
It was only when he got closer and the figure started to come into focus a bit that he realized something was off.
Wasn't Connal bigger than that...?
The chimera slowed to a cautious walk, ears starting to tilt back as he moved forward towards this newcomer who looked sort of like his Master.
"Who?"

The lanky Pyro spun his head around as he heard a bark; there were dogs here? He stood up, curious. There were never dogs at the dusty, dismal places RED sent him before, but then again, Swamp Rat was like nothing he had ever seen before.

Though he hadn't quite expected anything quite as different as Jericho to come trotting down the dock. James froze, though not out of fear, but confusion. How could that thing even be real? Why would it be...why did it have...what kind of maniac stitched together such a patchwork of...

...oh right. Probably a fucking Medic. His enthusiasm for his new home dampened slightly. So there were shenanigans going on here too eh? Well, good luck getting their filthy German hands on him this time, those butt-munching god forsaken...

The thing seemed friendly enough though, and he didn't want to startle it away. Heck it looked more of a danger to itself then to him. "Jmmms Whhuhhfft." he dropped on a knee, whistling to the dog-like creature. "Uttss arrught."

The hybrid cocked his head, an ear flicking forward a moment as he made a soft curious noise. He'd forgotten how badly voices got muffled in those gasmasks, Connal really didn't wear his much...
At least this newcomer didn't seem a bad sort, he'd introduced himself easily enough and hadn't tried to run away upon seeing the weird patchwork thing with a human (ish) face. He could give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
Pacing forward, the chimera still a moment as he got closer, nostrils flaring as both ears flicked up this time.
"You smell different. Like Riley. Only not."
He sniffed at every pause, taking a cautious step forward until he was just outside arm's reach, leaning in slightly to try and get a better handle on the stranger's scent without getting within grabbing range.

James had enough experience (and the scars to prove it) to let the little monster get his scent before getting any closer. Seemed like it would be awful rude to pet it, as tempting as it was, seein' how it was acting like a cat and all...

"Rrrlly?" he figured the patchwork beast was referring to the smell of rubber and pressurized fuel that followed the common Pyro in its natural habitat. "Thrrs unnthr Prryhu?"

Jericho simply stared for a moment, brow furrowed as he struggled to interpret the muffled words, then finally nodded.
"Connal is a Pyro. He's my Master. But you're like Riley..."
The hybrid edged closer, still cautious but becoming curious enough to want to try his luck as he sniffed at the newcomer, skirting around the Pyro to get a better 'look' at him. Finally, he gave a short huff and sat himself down next to the new person, ears pricked forward and his head head cocked to one side.
"You don't smell right for a crocodile. What are you?"

James stood up, looking down at Jericho incredulously, muttering to himself. "...wwhhi wwhuhd uh bh u crrcckddll?" Riley was a crocodile? Probably somebody's pet, he figured. Things must have been pretty strange at this base, what with goddamn science experiments and pet crocodiles. And science experiments that were pets too, apparently. Maybe there was a reason he managed to get a transfer so quickly...

"...Ahmma Phhryu." he was a bit guarded at the monster's question, folding his arms. "Thhts ulll."

The chimera huffed, giving the Pyro a look that said exactly what he thought of the masked man's insistence, but didn't bother to correct the newcomer. He'd find out eventually anyway, no need to push things.
Instead, he leaned back slightly and cocked his head to one side, brow furrowing as he tried to get a better look at this new person's uniform. Connal had been trying to help him work around his color blindness, but it was difficult to tell the shades of gray that were RED and BLU apart from eachother when he hadn't anything to compare them to...
Wait. Wait wait wait, he was wearing a RED shirt! He kept forgetting, being unused to wearing clothes, but it was something that was coming in handy more and more often. Maybe he would start wearing clothes more frequently, if they kept proving useful.
Jericho shuffled closer, forgetting personal space and his previous wariness as he shoved up against the Pyro, pressing his shoulder against the smaller man's to get his shirt and the Pyro's uniform close enough to compare, and smiled when he saw that the grays matched.
Teammate confirmed, the chimera backed off and got to his feet, looking around for the new comer's luggage.
"You want to go to base? Connal will be making dinner soon."

The lanky Pyro was almost knocked off his feet when Jericho leaned against him like some kind of absurdly over sized cat. He sighed at the question, shoulders slumping as he looked longingly at the swamp.

"Mmgghtt ss whll..." the amphibious arsonist snatched up his humble suitcase, nodding. "Ssshu, yrrra RHD? Dddnt chttch yrrr nmm.."

"Jericho. This way."
The hybrid was usually more patient, but he'd been wandering around most of the day and finding this new Pyro reminded him that his own firebug had been without his protection for far too long, and he very much wanted to get back 'home' so he could make sure that Connal was alright.
When he was certain the new comer had gotten all sorted and was ready to go, the chimera headed off towards the RED's home base, jogging where it was stable enough but never quite able to get up to a run with the weight of his tail dragging him down.
