Territory (for Anu)

The swamp that is a fixture surrounding the battlefield. The swamp, like most, is quite full of trees, moss, and most notably leeches. There are some strange things that pop out of the waters; are you willing to brave into them?

Territory (for Anu)

Postby Tentacles » Fri Jul 13, 2012 9:35 pm

Somewhere deep in the swamp was a decrepit wooden shack - a sorry excuse for a boathouse. It would have collapsed decades ago if all the vegetation that had grown up around it wasn't keeping it propped up.

For the right creature, however, it was something of a small paradise. A place to hide and be safe.

Swamp Rat's newest reject had found the whole affair quite cozy himself. The man-sized crab had re-arranged the inside of the boathouse to his liking; he had piled what remained of the small crafts into a corner, making a fort of broken wood and paddles held together with mud and moss. The floor was littered with animal bones and other debris the hybrid had found. It was miserable to be stuck up on the land because of that...thing in the water, but at least it felt safe here.

Lazing under the mid-morning sun that streamed in through the broken window, the crab contented himself with scratching an elaborate pattern of swirls into the floorboards with a claw.

Anu was all too aware of that thing in the water; he needed somewhere to live. Somewhere dark and quiet and safe. Even from the outside, he knew this was the perfect spot. A heavy net there, a wedge there, and it would be safe. It looked dark inside. It was perfect.

But occupied. He swam around the outside, considering how good this was a place, and debating flushing out the occupants. Perhaps he could just menace them off without any trouble.

He clawed at the wood of the water-side door; a long, deep scratch that rumbled noisily enough.

The crab stopped dead in his tracks at the sound of something clawing at the door. The monster? No, it couldn't be. The monster couldn't make a noise like that. A person then?

"Hello hello hello?" the crab's voice was rusty and dry from being out of the water for so long. "Who is that, go away. We're not at home." he started to back up, tail already raised menacingly in the air.

The voice didn't intimidate Anu. Alright, it was at least part-Person. It was talking. He wasn't worried.

Anu made a big sound out of jumping back down into the water, slipping under the boathouse water door and up to surface again inside.

Oh yes, perfect.

But what was that already here? Anu curled his lip and began crawling up, going right for the best position to strike at... whatever that was.

WHAAAT WHAT WAS THAT? His poor vision only told him that something LARGE with MANY appendages was coming up from under the water-side door. The man-sized crab was terrified, and rightly so. He made quite a bit of noise, the dry hissing that filled the boat house sounding for all the world like a sack of angry rattlesnakes. Shell tilted forward, the crab skittered backwards until his back hands hit the wall, tail pointed directly at the intruder like a rapier.

"OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT I SAID WE'RE NOT HOME!"

You're scared, just go, just get out, I don't care about you.

Perhaps that would make this easier, to say. Or not. He pulled out of the water and began trying to urge the hissing abomination toward the water. Or out the door. Anywhere just out. And stay out. What did he need more shelter for with a shell like that? Lacking shell, he was sticking to his guns.

He still had to sleep safely, too.

Even without words, the tentacled man's intentions became clear - he wanted the crab to leave. The prospect of giving up his hiding spot struck even further terror in the former Spy's heart(s). Sure, he had a shell; a shell that could be easily cracked or split or fractured, and any of those was an almost certain death sentence.

"NO I FOUND IT FIRST!" a great gurgling filled the crab's throat, and suddenly a great spew of salt water splashed out from under the crab's shell. An almost projectile spray of mucus followed, and the disgusting little creature used the temporary distraction to make a mad dash for its 'nest' of broken boats, hiding itself deep inside the tangle of shattered wood and debris.

"Please gooooooooooo."

Anu recoiled back, in pure, unadulterated... disgust. Ugh. This was the most horrible thing he'd ever seen walking around in one piece.

He'd change that. He'd crack and split that shell open and eat out the soft insides.

To make that point clear, he followed, grabbing a splinter of canoe he threw against the wall. And another. Oh yes he'd pull this little hiding spot apart, it wasn't exactly high-security.

No no no no no no - the Spy's 'training' never prepared him for a situation like this. If you were caught you were supposed to bluff and run. There really wasn't anywhere left to run to. Was this what happened to the other seven subjects?!

With few other options left, the crab decided to settle for the one that made the most 'sense' at the moment. Instead of trying to run or fight, he flattened himself to the floor, latching each claw into the floorboards. And held completely still.

Out. He could leave whenever he liked, Anu would let him, kept a way clear. However, when he got down to that shell clinging to the floor... well damn.

He shoved another piece of wood off him, and grabbed a thinner piece of wood to just hit the shell with good and hard. Get. Out! How stupid was he? Just leave! Save them both a whole lot of trouble.

Anu was starting to get frustrated.

The strike rattled the crab's entire exoskeleton to the core. He shrieked in terror; the sound made the strike sound harder then it actually was.

Crabs spewed a spray of slime in the general direction of the tentaspy, and took off skittering again. The crab had no problem climbing, but heights scared the fragile creature. Unfortunately, Anu was even more scary at the moment. With speed that seemed impossible for his size, the crab clawed up the wall of the boathouse and was quickly perched on one of the rafters.

"GO AWAY PLEASE."

The slime really was unfortunate. But he'd deal with that later.

This was ridiculous.

Anu didn't make any attempt to chase after him. He simply settled himself where he was, arms crossed. He wasn't going anywhere and that was the end of it. Why was he drawing this out so much? Just get out. They both knew who would win if he wanted to really fight about it, didn't they?

MEXICAN STANDOFF

Postby Tentacles » Sun Jul 15, 2012 8:12 pm

Crabs stayed perched in the rafters, claws digging into the old wood. A tilt of the shell, and he was able to see that the strange creature on the ground wasn't coming after him. Huh, so it didn't want to kill him, apparently. Still, this was Crab's hiding place, and he wasn't going to give it up. Entirely.

And pay half of the electric bill.

Postby Anu Laar » Sun Jul 15, 2012 8:17 pm

Anu was not convinced. Why should that thing stay? It could hide itself just fine; go dig into a mud hole. Disgusting. Throwing slime around. Why would he want to live with that.

No motion whatsoever, and the stern look kept stern.

He didn't want to share. He wanted to be alone, alone was safe.

Hmm. That didn't seem to work. The Crab tilted his shell down to 'look' at the tentaspy. Disappointed, he just tried again.

He didn't have a problem feeding himself, but, still... turning down food was never a good plan. And he'd eat the garbage? Well that would make things awfully tidy, unless he left some horrible stench around the place. Hopefully not.

Anu uncrossed his arms, resting his hands on his mantle. Thoughtful.

Then he pointed at the slime traces on the floor, with much accusation. Anything remotely like that being left around was not cool with him.

The crab just hissed at the splashes of slime around the boathouse being pointed out. "YOU SCARED ME." it was the Crab's turn to be accusatory. "Won't happen again. Just let me stay in house."

SITCOM TIME

Postby Anu Laar » Sun Jul 15, 2012 9:11 pm

Anu made a series of gestures; another point at the slime, then a firm shaking of his head. There would be none of that, no disgusting things inside. He made a gesture of pushing away from himself next, space. No touching; personal space respected. And then he pointed at the side he wanted; with the least crab-stuff in it.

Fine. He'd share. But he had his limits and he'd still get that thing out if he really wanted to.

Anu you will probably regret this

Postby Tentacles » Sun Jul 15, 2012 9:18 pm

"Yes yes yes. I can do that." the crab jauntily skittered to the other end of the rafter, sliding down the wall on his claws. "Maybe you aren't so so bad."

Pleased, the crab crawled to his side of the boathouse, gathering up the broken fragments of his 'nest'. A shame really. The former Spy busied himself with rebuilding the thing, humming. "Also, is called Crabs. What do I call you?"

Already do.

Postby Anu Laar » Sun Jul 15, 2012 9:33 pm

Call him? Nothing. He wasn't interested in the Crab's talk.

He needed to secure the building. Crab or no Crab lurking. So he just left, off to scavange some old netting he'd found hanging up. Rotting, not strong anymore at all, but it would stay together without too much tugging.

Anu brought it back, then began attaching it to the bottom of the water-side door by shoving the thick top rope up between spaces between the boards at the bottom. Clearly, there was work to be done. He needed to make it secure; the net would become part of an alarm system, so he could sleep at night.
