Bloodhound (for Jericho)

The swamp that is a fixture surrounding the battlefield. The swamp, like most, is quite full of trees, moss, and most notably leeches. There are some strange things that pop out of the waters; are you willing to brave into them?

Bloodhound (for Jericho)

Postby Tentacles » Wed Feb 29, 2012 8:44 pm

The slippery arsonist wasn't sure why he was doing this.

Out of some kind of misguided guilt for not caring for the missing Medic? An attempt to bring one of their own team home? Prove he wasn't completely worthless?

Didn't really matter. He had already spent a few wild eyed hours tromping through the swamp, looking here and there and everywhere. Rufus was definitely not in the RED base anymore, leaving the wilderness. Had he wandered out, gripped by delirium from his fever? The medicine could wait, a fat lot of good it would do if they didn't have the patient. Fuck, could even kill two birds with one stone, find the grumpy ass German and drag him to BLU...

Ax over his shoulder, he just prayed the chimera would show.

In all honesty, the note wasn't what got Jericho out of the base.
He'd bumped into it, sure enough, and the handwriting was actually large enough for him to read without squinting, but it was the scent clinging to the paper that decided his actions; A faint tinge of something toxic overlayed with the heavy stink of worry. Whatever the other Pyro wanted of him, it had his fellow hybrid extremely agitated, and he wanted to know why.
A moment to nudge Connal and give his Master a little warning before he wandered off, the chimera trundled out into the open and set his nose to work, keeping a good 6 feet between him and the edge of the water at all times as he sniffed and snuffled at his surroundings.
He barked gruffly upon glimpsing RED ahead of him, and padded over, taking a seat next to the salamander.
"What's wrong?"

jericho are you implying james smells bad

Postby Tentacles » Thu Mar 01, 2012 5:48 am

What a relief. He had half expected the chimera to not show; he hadn't seen much of Jericho lately, but word down the grapevine made it pretty obvious the monster was very deathly afraid of whatever was in the water now. Not without good reason, but...

"Guess you've figured out by now Rufus is missing." might as well get straight to the point and fight the urge to scruff the dogmen behind the ears. "He's not anywhere in the building, and he wasn't kind enough to leave any goddamn tracks through the swamp." he pinched his brow, scowling. "Not that it should be this fucking hard to find someone scooting around in a damn wheelchair..."

"I was hopin' maybe you could help me find him." he smirked weakly. "I've got bad eyes and a shitty nose, but at least you have a nose. Shouldn't be hard to sniff him out, huh?"

No he isn't, James just smells different

Postby Gerhard Melsbach » Thu Mar 01, 2012 12:32 pm

The chimera snorted, suppressing the urge to grin, though his lips twitched anyway. James always did have a way of wording things that never failed to amuse him...
"Sick doctor smell isn't hard to find, rotten blood from infection. I warned him it was worse than he thought, but he didn't listen."
An ear flicked, and he turned towards the swamp, looking out towards the BLU base, which to him was nothing more than a vague smear of shape. Nostrils flaring, he took a deep inhale, letting his eyes close so he could better focus on the scents of the environment around him.
The smells of plant decay and wet dirt was strongest, nothing out of the ordinary there, closely followed by the acrid stinging scent of James and the toxins that continually leaked from the man's skin, overlaid slightly with the muted smell of rubber and smoke (damn it, they only had so many matches!). There was wood, a faint bit of avian from the few egrets still hanging out along the shore, some faded crocodile musk (must have fled the area with their new monster around), and-
Jericho blinked, brow furrowed.
"Huh."
There was a new sort of smell, something vaguely familiar in a way he couldn't quite pin down. Faint, but definitely there. Something clean, almost fresh smelling, like cucumber or watercress...
Frowning, the chimera sniffed again and got to his feet, turning away from the water to try and pin down that odd smell, only to give a sharp snort as he got a noseful of that awful smell of rotten blood, faded but strong enough for him to get a vague direction.
"This way."

Well they had a direction at least. Maybe that was all they needed. With a nod, the salamander wordlessly followed the chimera, trusting the Soldier's nose to lead the way.

MEANWHILE...

Jericho's nose wasn't the only sensitive olfactory powerhouse in the swamp. Far from it. A set of nostrils poked just over the black water's surface, snuffing at the air. It was smart enough to travel now with a bit more stealth...the swamp had gone deathly silent ever since its little encounter with the BLU Engineer. Sure, there was enough fauna in the swamp to keep it satisfied for months, but it all fell short of its intended prey.

It sensed two entities out and about. One...inedible. Slimey most likely. A poor choice with little fat. But the other...a rich cocktail sent of reptile and mammal, robust and bursting with flavor. Warm blooded most likely. It felt a distant pang of nostalgia at the mixed canine/crocodile scent.

It wouldn't fuck up this time.

The thing kept itself hidden in the depths, letting its nose guide its way towards our intrepid heroes the two idiots in the swamp...

Headfirst into a patch of brambles, Jericho hissed to himself, cursing under his breath as he did his best to keep his head still so his claws could break through the nasty thorns. He'd been following that sharp, unmistakable smell of rot and wound up tripping into the bush when he got caught up on the discovery of the missing doctor's wheelchair. That other scent, the fresh-smelling one, was there too, stronger but still faint, overlaid with the scent of a human (large, female).
The chimera grunted as his head finally popped free, one ear scraped and bleeding while there was a mess of twigs and leaves caught up in his hair.
"Stupid bush..."

Inwardly, the salamander started a grand ceremony of self ass kicking for not bringing along his mask. There wasn't a chance he could follow Jericho get into the brambles without tearing out his eyeballs...at least, not a chance he was willing to take. He could still see the poor Medic's wheelchair tangled in the brush though for himself.

"Shit..." he ignored the long suffering chimera's wounds for the moment. The abandoned chair carried with it a whole host of shitty implications. Not only had the paralyzed jerk dragged himself out into the swamp in a fit of illness induced impaired judgment, something had probably dragged him off as well. But there wasn't a spec of blood anywhere (that didn't appear to belong to the hapless dogman).

"So what's got our swamp Nazi?" James joked nervously. "Or did he just get up and walk away?"

Huffing crossly through his nose, Jericho backed up a few steps before sitting himself down to get the brambles out of his hair, not wanting the mess to get caught up in his horns and tear into his ears anymore than they already had. As he busied himself with the grooming, he grumbled his conclusions to the waiting pyromaniac.
"Was carried off, human, female, possible other. Boot prints go towards the bridge, maybe BLU base. Locals unlikely."
Shaking his head to get out the last couple leaves, Jericho got to his feet once more, snorting a moment to clear his nasal passages before turning to follow the human and fresh scents, forgetting a moment that he was supposed to be avoiding the water as he skirted around James.

LET THE WANKERY BEGIN

Postby Tentacles » Mon Mar 12, 2012 6:31 pm

Closer...yes just a little closer, you warm blooded moron. The monster's jaw quivered with anticipation as the hapless pair trudged on, ever closer to its domain.

Whoever stepped close enough to the shore to draw it out was unknown, and probably for the best. Two tons of hungry reptile bolted from the black water, a scaly mass that terminated in a jawful of jagged teeth, hurtling towards Jericho.

This was not the first time this had happened.

********************************************************

The halls were dark, the occasional light flickering on and off erratically. Water had flooded throughout the building, tainted just barely pink with blood, and was now spreading ankle deep on the hard linoleum.

Someone had let the forever unlucky Jericho out of his cage, mercifully, under the pretense of giving him half a chance to get free. It was hard to say why precisely the building was in total chaos, but it might have not taken much imagination for those who knew...

...so Jericho, possible exits are NORTH, SOUTH, EAST and Dennis. Choose carefully.

Teeth. Water. Pain.
Jericho cried out, the sound a pitched mixture of a very human scream and a very canine howl as his mistake made itself known in the agony of jagged teeth digging into his side, tearing into one leg and part of his tail. Panic caught on quick, and the chimera cried out again as he was slammed into the bank, an attempt to knock him loopy and make hiom easier prey. He lurched, wings fluttering and ears pinned down to either side of his head as he debug his claws into the muddy earth. Something, anything mto hang on to, to prevent him being dragged into the water, into the monster's realm-!

---

It wasn't really easy to get through the water, claws skidding on the wet tiles while his tail tugged heavily on his extended spine, but he wasn't going to let this opportunity slip by, not now, not when it could be his only opportunity, and Whimpy had taken such a risk-
Jericho shook his head, gritting his teeth. Now was not the time to think of the shy little Medic, now was the time to get OUT.
He huffed, forcing himself to pick up speed despite how the increased motion pulled on his stitches and made his muscles ache. Fucking doctors...

i accidently a Frued

Postby Tentacles » Sat Mar 17, 2012 9:10 pm

There was a rather lewd, repetitive slapping sound echoing from the hallways ahead, something fleshy whacking through the shallow water. Accompanying it was something's strained breathing, inter-spaced with throaty growls. Its jaws emerged from around the corner first, followed by the rest of the horrible head.

In any other situation this would almost be a ridiculous sight: the huge water monster was pulling itself through the laboratory on its fins, crammed into the tight space like a mole in its burrow. Its face was caked with blood, and its fierce gaze fell on the chimera unflinchingly.

The dogman just had the misfortune of being in its way.

Rolling its shoulders, the beast slid its bulk as quickly as it could into the corner, and began throwing itself down the hall, charging for Jericho with a speed that defied its size.

A moment staring in gobsmacked shock, the chimera's mind scrambling to cope with the horror lying before him, when he realized that it was moving towards him. And fast.
Swallowing a yelp, Jericho scrambled for purchase on the sopping tiles, claws skidding on the ceramic before managing to dig into the grout. It was hard getting his heavy tail to follow him as he fought to turn, but the sharp iron scent of blood crawled up his nose and added extra spur of adrenaline, and he bolted as fast as he could down the hallway.

better run dogmen!

Postby Tentacles » Sat Mar 17, 2012 10:02 pm

Jericho's panicked skittering just spurred it on. Running, frightening prey was always more satisfying. It rapidly closed the gap between itself and the fleeing chimera. The tail was quite convenient, it noted. Its jaws slammed down on the crocodilian appendage, hooking the scaly flesh in its teeth. Once it felt it had a grip, it started to shimmy backwards, dragging the hybrid off.

He couldn't help the pained yelp that escaped him as the beast clamped down on his tail, the heavy scales providing no deterrent to the monster's jagged teeth. He fought to dig in his claws, cursing the tiles that skidded along under his grip like the scales of some great fish and fervently ignoring the hot sting behind his eyes.

ha ha time for godmodding

Postby Tentacles » Sat Mar 17, 2012 10:51 pm

So this little one had some fight in him? Not like the others that had given up to his hunger so easily, death already in their eyes as he came for them. No this one would be a challenge. A rare treat.

The monster swung its head to the side with a quick jerk, sending the chimera slamming into the wall. The tip of the hybrid's tail broke off in its mouth, leaving a trailing arch of blood as Jericho briefly became airborne. As it started to shove itself forward toward the chimera, the damn thing almost seemed to be grinning...

Being slammed into the wall knocked him for a loop, head spinning from the impact, but what made it worse was the sharp tugging pain of his tail tip being literally torn off, muscles and skin tearing as bone snapped, and he cried out, the pitched sound half human scream and half near-canine yowl. Dizzy from the agony, he slumped against the nearby wall, struggling to breath, when his ear twitched, drawing his attention to the sounds of the creature moving.
Glancing back, he felt his internal organs make a bid for launching up his throat, clogging his breath in his chest as the beast lurched for him. He didn't think, only acted, hind legs bunching under him as his tail curled in tight, and he launched straight up as the monster's jaws attempted to clamp down on him once more. He yelped in mid-air when he realized how high he'd jumped, up off the ground almost as high as he was tall, and flailed in panic. Something that very well may have saved his life as he landed hard atop the monster's narrow skull.
Claws dug in, find purchase upon the soft slippery hide that he'd been unable to find on the ground, and he took immediate advantage, gritting his teeth as he found his grip and ran.
Living tissue, no matter how dense, would always be difficult to use as a walking surface, but in times of extreme duress such as this, one made do as best one could. Jericho did his best to go as fast as he could, but the usual distance devouring lope he used on the ground faltered as he found himself forced to dig in his claws with every step, so he was limited to something of a speed walk.
But it was better than being this creature's meal, so he went with it.

clever dog!

Postby Tentacles » Sat Mar 17, 2012 11:25 pm

The monster was so surprised it barely had time to react as it felt a volley of claws clatter over its head and down its back. That...slippery little...!

It let out a frustrated bellow that shook the laboratory, and tried desperately to back peddle. There wasn't a chance the beast could turn around in this confined space. All it could do was listen to the pitter patter of that damned chimera running away, its scent fading. It voiced its rage at loosing its prey once more before dragging itself off to easier targets, its carnage destined to continue.

*******************************

"Come on fuzzball!"

Rubber gloves wrapped around the chimera's muddied claws, dragging him up the bank of the swamp. Oh jesus, don't look at the wounds that thing's already put on him, jesus christ. The two of them didn't stand a chance against that thing, it was better just to run.

The monster made one more lunge at the hapless pair, snapping furiously as it tried to drag itself from the water.

Jericho hung on tight, his claws digging into the thick rubber as the hybrid Pyro fought to pull him to safety, despite the monster's grip. It hurt, oh GOD, it hurt-! Blinking away tears, the chimera grit his teeth, unable to keep himself from whimpering as he was tugged loose, leaving a large chunk of his left thigh wedged between the monster's fangs.
He felt positively sick from the terribly gut wrenching terror of the attack, something that collided messily with the shock and blood loss caused by his injury and made him whimper from how badly his head was spinning. Even with James's help, he barely managed to hobble 3 feet before his limbs gave out beneath him and sent him crashing to the ground with a nasty squelch.
He could feel his leg pulsing, the panicked beat of his own heart causing blood to gush from the bite wound, and he swallowed another whimper.
"I-It's after me, it wants me, run James..."

Time for out of character heroics? Yes

Postby Tentacles » Sun Mar 18, 2012 6:08 pm

"Yeah, you're real fucking popular with it, I can tell." the Pyro was blissfully unaware of the entangled history the monster and the chimera shared, thinking Jericho was just in shock from his wounds. The creature was momentarily distracted...shaking its head back and forth in the water with the hunk of the dogman's flesh in its jaws. A shudder traveled up James' spine...it almost seemed to be playing with it, as if savoring a temporary victory.

Fuck, why hadn't Jericho been with Niklas or Josif or someone USEFUL...like hell he was going to leave the chimera there for this fucking water psycho to devour. "Come on...on your FEET. Unless you want to donate MORE of yourself to the feed-the-hungry-freak-fund." he hoisted a shoulder under the normally quadrupedal chimera's forearm, forcing the patchwork hybrid another few yards from the shoreline before the salamander collapsed under the added weight.

The creature in the meantime had vanished for the time being.

The chimera barely bit back a whimper as he was forced to put weight on his injured limb, the torn muscles spasming painfully as he struggled to make them move for him, but he was grateful for the help. GOD, he was grateful. If he'd been on his own, that beast would have dragged him in and torn him to bits, eaten him alive and enjoyed it. the sadistic shit.
He managed to stagger alongside James, his claws digging into the thick rubber for a better grip to hold him at least semi-upright, leaving a trail of blood staining the ground a disgusting mucky scarlet that only became further muddled as his tail dragged over the mess. When the Pyro collapsed, he instinctively attempted to grab his teammate, forgetting he was using the man to keep himself upright, and wound up thudding down hard on his side, a handful of torn rubber in his claws.
Ugh, he felt so dizzy...
Swallowing hard, the patchworked hybrid untangled his fingers from the Pyro's suit, rolling onto his stomach and gritting his teeth as he heaved himself up onto all fours, a pained sound catching in his throat as he tried to balance on his injured limb. Damnit, he was loosing way too much blood here-!
"C'mon, James, gotta- Gotta keep moving..."
Away from the water, away from the monster, away from the past- Ow ow ow owowowowoww, fucking fucker FUCK!
