Side-Effects (Gerhard)

The BLU barracks lie here. The BLU logo that lies above it hangs from a nail, the sloppily painted BLU logo scraping off with age. The windows are boarded up, the nails that hold the boards there rusty from exposure. You swear you see a large spiderweb out of the corner of your eye, but can't bear to look. The floorboards creak as you move inside, and the light coating of dust compliments the cobwebs and aged wood inside. It looks like someone recently halfheartedly tried to clean up the place. They didn't do a very good job of it.

Side-Effects (Gerhard)

Postby Anu Laar » Sun Nov 25, 2012 10:16 am

Anu had been of two minds about this for a while. He didn't feel right. But these things had come and gone; after he'd first escaped he would feel awful, all the time, for no reason he could find, but it had all passed. He kept on surviving, out here, and that was all he really needed.

But there was one thing that didn't go away. Feeling tired, feeling slow, feeling... not like himself. It never got better, only worse, little by little.

Not interested in just going inside the BLU base, he hesitated at the front door. There was real danger in being around humans, even if it was just startling them. Maybe the others here had found their own way to fit in, but he was here because he didn't really trust People. The one like him that insisted on living with them, however, was someone to 'talk' to, and Anu was prepared, case with a notebook in it under his arm. He pulled it out and used the metal thing to knock on the wood.

The odd noise of the notebook's metal spring binding being rapped on the wood of the front door would have likely been missed by anyone else, since most everyone tended to be at the other end of the base, eating or reading or sleeping or whatever else. But the Infirmary was right next to the front porch, and Gerhard had rather good hearing, so it was only a few moments before he was putting aside his paperwork to find out what in the world was making such a queer sound.
Poking his head out of the Infirmary revealed nothing, but the noise grew louder, so the TentaMedic investigated further, hesitating a moment before opening the front door.
"Hello...?"

Hmmmm. The notebook probably wouldn't be useful, just then.

Anu put it down and pointed at Gerhard, back and forth a bit, then shook his finger at him again. He'd been looking for him in particular.

He patted his own chest a little, then pantomimed slumping and not being at all well. That was him. Anu sighed and slumped a little for real, looking at Gerhard very tiredly. He wasn't very motivated, but he was past pushed to the point of putting it in the hands of a Medic, clearly.

This one was different, probably.

For a long moment after the colorful hybrid's miming, Gerhard just stared, brow furrowed as he struggled to process what exactly the other was trying to get across. Point, point, finger shaken at him, chest pat, slump...
Most of it went over his head, but when the brightly colored hybrid sighed and slumped over like his head was abruptly made of lead, his Medic instincts kicked in and he opened the door further to allow himself through.
"Are you feelingk alright? Ist somezhing wrong...?"
He wanted to touch, to check temperature and skin texture and search of symptoms, but he knew very well that this was not a teammate, not someone who knew and trusted him. Things were only to go as far as the other hybrid wished things to, no further.

squid handshakes?

Yes, something was wrong. Anu couldn't imagine what. He needed someone that could figure it out.

He nodded. Yes, very yes, that.

And he was willing to go inside, be examined, everything. He slowly snaked one tentacle forward, now that there wasn't a door in the way, slow and easy, wanting to make contact. Couldn't say, exactly, how he thought it might help, but he did. Contact could mean a lot, and he made his ginger and willing to jump back... but mostly wanting to simply touch. Clawed hands holding his notebook in front of him. Anu didn't have much practice in coming off non-threatening, but he was trying, now.

Of course, Gerhard hadn't been in veterinary training for nothing, and he smiled gently, backing off to allow the multi-colored hybrid inside while at the same time offering a hand in invitation.
"Mein Infirmary is just over here. It's not much, but if you feel comfortable enough, I can give you a basic physical so ve can start to figure out vhat ist ailing you, ja?"

Anu nodded again. Still very serious looking, if nothing else. But behaving himself.

He looked inside the door uncertainly, then gestured at it with his chin, holding open the door even wider himself. After you; Anu didn't want to muck about with someone seeing him first and reacting poorly, or looking for it, or... anything. Being inside a building much more substantial than his crumbling shack was an unsettling prospect; buildings belonged to People.

It was going to be Venturing Forth to somewhere he didn't really want to go. Anu wasn't going first.

"It's alright, everyvone ist ins zhe kitchen. I zhink Maddie ist cooking or somezhing..."
He shrugged, moving to the side to wait a moment before deciding to humor the other and lead the way, quickly traversing the short distance from the front door to his Infirmary, where he held the door open, waiting for the multi-colored hybrid to follow.

Anu crept in gingerly, as if the floor might open up and try to swallow him. He could 'walk' well enough on his tentacles, a rolling motion across these even floors.

He didn't like it in here. His head ducked and shoulders kept tense, looking around and smelling deeply, hyper-aware of everything. Of potential threats. But, so far.. no threats, really. He didn't like medical areas of any sort, and one with a tank least of all, but... if he couldn't put a little trust in this Gerhard there wasn't anybody else to go to. Not in his paranoid mind.

Alright, now what? He looked at the doctor expectantly.

Noting the other's tension, the Medic frowned slightly before he moved across the room, hauling open every window he could find before scrambling the other way to close the door that led into the other room where the tanks were held.
"Sorry, I just cleaned recently, forgot to air zhings out..."
A moment to clear his throat in an attempt to banish his sudden bout of nerves, he gestured to a nearby gurney, the sheets crisp and clean.
"Vould you care to take a seat? I vould offer a chair, but I've only zhe vone."

Anu had never gone to a doctor, as such, before signing his contract with RED. There were no memories of some helpful man patching up a scraped knee, not that wasn't a family member. Offices with equipment and patient tables were a thing of this new odd life of his.

Unsure as to how the table would aid anything, he still crawled up and sat on top, limbs draping all down the sides and gripping around it, paper crinkling. The notebook was set down, his hands folded in his lap... such as it was.

Suddenly, he yawned, mouth full of sharp teeth opening wide as he sucked in air, then drooped again and blew it out.

A brow quirked at seeing all those sharp teeth, the hybrid doctor unconsciously running his tongue over his own teeth - Almost normal but for his canines. He couldn't help feeling rather glad he didn't have such vicious looking dentation, his job would have been made that much harder...
Shaking his head a little to banish the irrelevant thought process, he moved to get his one chair from behind his desk, rolling it up to the gurney and sitting himself down. Normally, he would have had a clipboard with the patient's file, but he had nothing for this hybrid, which was a tad bit unnerving. He didn't like heading into a task without information to work from.
"So. Vhat can I do to help you? I can see zhat you are nervous in zhis setting, but I can assure you zhat it ist safe here. I am zhe Head Medic of zhis base, und believe it or not, I have some experience treating hybrids such as yourself. I vill do everyzhing in my power to help you vizh vhatever ails you."

it's doodle time

Postby Anu Laar » Sun Dec 02, 2012 7:41 pm

Anu looked around shiftily a bit more, then pulled his limbs up a bit, one in particular curling up to become a support for his notebook. It was pulled out of the hard case and set on top of it, and Anu hunched over with a pencil. Gently, he was learning gently, he drew out as best he could.

He'd been energetic and strong, then he'd started to slow down, and now... that last one was now, today, which Anu did his best to convey by pointing at Gerhard and the other tentacled fellow in the last one.

Weak and tired, Anu was feeling less and less like himself. It was endlessly frustrating, how impossible it was to really convey these things.

The doodling was... Unexpected, but he'd heard from across the pond (actually drunk Henry after a visit with Niklas) that this particular fellow had difficulty speaking, so really it only made sense that he'd resort to other means of communication. Though why he didn't just write an explanation-
No, that was something to figure at another time.

He leaned in to get a better look, standing a little from his chair so he could see, brow furrowing as he puzzled over the meaning of the pictures.
The tentacles figures he could decipher easily enough, the one with squiggly hair was supposed to be the artist while the 'bald' one was him, but the rest of it...
That first doodle was especially interesting.

Anu nodded enthusiastically; oh yes, hadn't he heard of it? Anu put his hands out wide, then brought them in and down quickly. He didn't make much noise, but he could manage a little blown out 'boom' sound effect with his lips. He then pointed at the swamp; a crash out there.

But he shrugged and waved it off; it had been a while ago now, it wasn't that to blame.

"I heard somezhing about a crash of some sort, but no vone bozzered to really explain it to mich. Vell, Henry vas zhe only vone who knew, und he vas avay for avhile..."
Gerhard shook his head, returning his attention to the drawing in the hopes of figuring out what else his patient was trying to communicate.
"So... You arrived here on a plane crash. Und... Found shelter of some kind?"
He pointed to the house-like shape in the second set of images, a brow quirking curiously as he looked for affirmation from his patient.

Anu nodded, then made a rolling motion with his hands; that was later. How else to mark the passing of time? Nothing else had changed, no big landmarks of import to him, anyway.

Well, there was when he first met this guy. He pointed between the middle and last set of drawings, then back and forth between the two of them. Out there, he pointed by the river, that happened between those two things. Was that helping? He was growing more and more anxious for it to be conveyed somehow.

The gestures' true meanings went right over the doctor's head, leaving Gerhard staring with the air of a very confused pet dog trying to figure out where the ball went.
"You... Were living out in zhe svamp...?"
His brow furrowed. Off the top of his head, he could think of a large number of diseases and infections one could get from dwelling too often in the kind of water they had around here. Even with the slow current introduced by the river inlet, the water in this area was largely stagnant, and the TentaMedic always made sure to rinse himself off after going out for a swim. The less chances of contracting some sort of fungal infection, the better.

"I zhink, maybe, ve shouldt try a basic physical. Nozhing extraordinary, just veight und height, temperature, heart rate- Zhe basics, nozhing more, I promise."
Gerhard moved to stand, coming level with his patient.
"Do you trust me?"
