Uninvited Guests (BLU Event Respawn, Open)

The BLU barracks lie here. The BLU logo that lies above it hangs from a nail, the sloppily painted BLU logo scraping off with age. The windows are boarded up, the nails that hold the boards there rusty from exposure. You swear you see a large spiderweb out of the corner of your eye, but can't bear to look. The floorboards creak as you move inside, and the light coating of dust compliments the cobwebs and aged wood inside. It looks like someone recently halfheartedly tried to clean up the place. They didn't do a very good job of it.

Power dipped across the entire base as BLU's Lazarus machine choked on much more then it could handle. Lights flickered and the actual mechanism let out a pitiful whine of exertion.

And then he was back.

Jasper held a hand up against the offending light, eyes slitting into fine points defensively. How long had he been dead? He couldn't recall how he managed to get himself killed again, nor could he shake the heavy mental fog that weighed fiercely on his throbbing head. Looking down at his hands, he saw that they were still scaly, and a familiar weight hanging off his ass confirmed his fears: the past few days at Hydro had not been just a bad dream.

But where the hell was he? It was a resupply room of SOME kind, though the smells were all wrong. The smell of the desert was gone, replaced with the muffled stink of aquatic rot. And the colors were definitely wrong. This was a BLU base. The Respawn machine must have been fucked 12 ways to Tuesday if it sent him here. He had to get OUT before someone noticed him.

Unfortunately, his legs were still noodles. The monstrous former RED found them highly uncoperative and quickly fell with a crash, tail trailing behind. "Torrieu!" he spat, reaching for his disguise kit, finding it conveniently missing.

With a little luck, maybe he would be able to walk before anyone showed up.

For once, it wasn't the Medic who first noticed something off.
Gerhard was fast asleep in his tank, exhausted from a long day struggling to recover from the whole mess of killing the swamp monster and having a number of people he considered friends either badly injured or killed in some of the most gruesome ways he had ever seen on top of the usual monotony of paperwork and stressing over their ever dwindling supplies.
But there was another BLU up and about, cleaning his rifle for the fourth time that day in an attempt to simply not think for a while when the lights dimmed and flickered.

Frowning, Enrico quickly reassembled his gun and slung it over his back, jogging towards the generator room to check things were alright there before heading down the winding route of narrow halls and stairs that would lead him to the Respawn room underneath the base.
It only took hearing some rather noisy scuffling for him to realize that someone had some through, and he quickly ran a mental roster through his head, trying to remember who all had come through and who hadn't before remembering that he really didn't know much of his current team.
"Chroist Almighty..."
Swallowing hard, the Sniper cautiously toed the door open, rifle in hand just in case what was on the other side was some poor soul who'd come through all backwards and mucked up. It'd happened with his Engineer before everything went to hell...
"Lo? Give us a hollar, who's there?"

Oh, this did not bode well in the least. The hybrid was able to smell the Sniper heading towards the respawn room well in advance, but was literally powerless to do much about it. He attempted to claw his way up the wall in one more attempt to stand, and that also failed spectacularly. FUCKE. He had to get out of here before the stupid bushman got here-

-wait, how was he so sure the man heading this way was a Sniper? He didn't smell a bit like the BLU Sniper he butted heads with back at his old base. And yet here his memory was insisting the smelly human headed this way was undoubtably a Sniper, followed by a tinge of something he preffered not to dwell on. The taste of blood and the sensation of blindness.

Regardless, all he knew was he had to get the hell out. Fast. If he couldn't stand, at least he could run. Sort of.

As soon as the Sniper cautiously popped the door open, Jasper made a dash for it on all fours. He barreled into Enrico, knocking the hapless kiwi aside, with the added insult of getting slapped with the trailing six foot tail. This place was totally alien to him, but he followed the stink of the swamp - surely that would lead him outdoors.

How far he would get was a toss up, however - he was already winded by the time he reached the stairs, a trickle of blood starting to dribble out of his nose.

"Holy-!"
Enrico just barely managed to stay upright, stumbling back several steps and nearly smashing his rifle against the wall as something surprisingly large came barreling out of the Respawn and into his legs. His initial thought was how the hell did the RED's patchwork thing get in their Respawn, but then his eyes caught up with the rest of his brain and he revised that thought with extreme prejudice. He would recognize that skin patterning anywhere.
But how in the world was that monstrosity on land?!
And a great deal smaller than he remembered too, now that he thought about it.

Swallowing hard, he quickly checked his rifle and reluctantly jogged after the thing that had come out of the Respawn and was currently heading up towards the base. Oh shit, the base! The stairs led right up to the second floor, where everyone was sleeping!
Enrico picked up the pace, catching up as best he could without hitting himself in the face with his gun (seriously it's hard to run with a rifle), and skidded to a halt a short distance away to take aim.
"Stop right where you are! I gotchyer head in my sight, an' I don't think you wanna go through the system again so soon."

You're all bloody dead!

Postby Tentacles » Wed Aug 08, 2012 12:17 pm

Well, the monster had stopped on the stairs regardless of the Sniper's threat. Mostly because his vision was starting to get hazy around the edges and it hurt to breathe. Why did he think this was a good idea again?

Either way here he was trapped on the stairs with this kiwi's lazer dot dancing on his head. He slumped, defeated, crouching down on one of the steps. The huge tail arched protectively around its owner, acting as a barrier.

"Maybe you should get it FIXED first?" the hybrid snapped, also reminding the Sniper that the monster's teeth had come with it. Jasper narrowed his reptilian eyes at the huntsman. "And what base is this anyway?"

The marksman felt a small twinge of sympathy, remembering the blinded monster in pain that he had tried to help, but scowled when he recalled how that had turned out, shuddering faintly as he took a half step forward.
"Our Engie's been workin' on it, prob'ly the only reason you even got through at all."
Ever since that mess with 12...
Hang on, how did that thing come through anyway? Had that monster been human?
Oh God, it made so much sense now. He knew the damn thing had been smart, really smart, but it had had human level intelligence the whole time- Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, no wonder the RED's patchwork thing was so scared of it. A human mind in a body like that, made whoever knows how... No wonder the damn thing was so pissed off all the time.
The question though- That caused a pause.
"Same base y'been at f'the past three months, if y'really are what I think you are. Not so tough now y'not 15 foot long, ey?"

Wait, what? The long, snake like neck jerked back in disbelief. "What are you talking about? I've been at Hydro for the past month!"

Meanwhile, the monster had mostly recovered from the effects of respawn (and attempting to sprint out of the base). Jasper was sizing up the Sniper, looking for the first opening possible. Get the gun away from him...killing him would be a bad idea, that would just inspire his buddies to hunt him down...and make a mad dash for the RED base.

Okay, there was definitely something of here.
Though he kept his gun aimed, Enrico took a slight step back and let his finger rest from the trigger, wanting to hear what the monster's left over bits had to say.
"Well, this sure as hell ain't Hydro, an' if you're what I think you are, you haven't been anywhere near that map for at least 3 months. Prob'ly longer, considering y'current state an' how you were."

that Sniper is crazy

Postby Tentacles » Thu Aug 09, 2012 10:06 am

What? Three months? What...state?

Considering the Spy's memories were heavily scrambled, this little tidbit had all kinds of disturbing implications to it. Under different circumstances, Jasper would have dismissed the Sniper's statements and planted a knife in the other's back. However, here he was in apparently not-Hydro with a gun pointed at his head. And still a monster, somehow. Shit, how did that even happen? Even the memories of how he got to dragging around a tail almost as tall as he was had degenerated into a murky slush.

Just thinking about it made his head spin. Forget it. He had to get out of here before Dr. Butterfinger's friends showed up. Wait, where did that nickname come from in his head? No, don't think about that either. It doesn't matter.

"Well I am NOT whatever it is you think I am. I 'ave not been here for the past three months. Now, if we're done, perhaps you'll do me the favor of letting me leave and informing your Engineer that your respawn is still broken." the hyrbid bared a mouth of needle teeth at the Sniper before standing, turning to leave up the stairs.

Before the sort-of monster could take two steps, there was a deafening CRACK as the Sniper fired off a round, splintering the wood barely a finger's width from the hybrid's head, shortly followed by the sharp click-clank as he reloaded. Enrico scowled from behind the scope, eyes narrowed in a piercing glare.
"You're gonna stay right there, Toothy, whether y'like it'r not. Til I can be sure y'not gonna try for Henry's other leg, I'm not gonna let you up into the base, got it?"
He had his feet braced and his rifle ready to fire, far enough away from the critter-thing that it couldn't swat him with that big tail but close enough that if the situation called for it he could throw himself in to tackle it. Sure, it was likely stronger than he was, and he was at a disadvantage with those claws and teeth, but better to risk getting chomped on than his teammates getting nommed unawares.
"Now, I'm gonna ask you a couple questions, fill in a few gaps. Might be helpful f'you too, if y'cooperate."

Oh. Well. That settled that. Even a delusional armed gunman was still an armed gunman.

When the monster turned back around after Enrico's little display of 'guess what, I still have a gun, stupid', the look in his eyes was one of absolute hatred. All he wanted was to get the hell out, he didn't even care about the intelligence or whatever the fuck was the prize at this base. And who the FUCK was Henry?

"Fine. Whatever will satisfy whatever sick curiousity you might 'ave." Jasper was gauging the distance between himself and the Sniper; a step closer by either of them and the hybrid would be able to take him out. Had to get that gun away from him somehow. "I'm just not sure what you hope to accomplish."

"Like I said, fill in some gaps."
The New Zealander paused a moment, frowning as he judged the distance between himself and the monster, and quickly took a step back before bracing himself again, ready to shoot. He really was not taking any chances this time.
"Name, Class, Team. An' whatever you think the date it."
It was pretty basic information, but it would help the Sniper a great deal. Asking for a name was just courtesy, but knowing a class would give him a rough idea of the other's skill set, and a team would judge ally or enemy. And a guess at the date would tell him how much the other could remember, since it seemed the monster didn't recognize him.
Respawn was a fickle mistress, and this system in particular. He would not be surprised if there was a glitch involved in this whole mess.

The monster raised a brow (or if you preffer, a stripe) at the Sniper's questions. "I thought giving out names was strictly forbidden, and doubly so for enemies." though considering the current situation, perhaps the rules did not really apply.

"Jasper. And as for my class and team I see your powers of observation are a bit weak for a Sniper." to make his point, he plucked at the tattered remains of his pinstripes. While notably faded (and stained with blood here and there), the sadly worn suit was clearly deep red.

"As for t' date...." this actually made the Spy's brow furrow with thought. The date, the date, the exact DAY and MONTH...those were lost to him. The year itself seemed murky as well. "...19...196X?" the monster ventured.

Oh. Well, he felt dumb now, the suit was pretty obvious now that he looked.
Damn colorblindness...
So, a RED Spy spawning from the BLU system. That would need to be fixed, mental note to tell Henry.
But for now-
"Try 199X. Y'thirty odd years off."

Adrian grumbled, stumbling out of bed. He'd waited so long to get that sound bomb working, waited what seemed like longer to actually use it, and when he did, everything went to hell and he got chewed up about it later. All the Demoman wanted to was sleep this whole assault off; this aftermath being a grim reminder of the warehouse incident. And just his luck, a couple of bozos were arguing outside the door of Guest Room A, Adrian's explosives lab and, in a pinch, alternate bedroom.

Why couldn't he just be left in peace?

With sluggish movements, the Demoman threw on his cap over his dreadlocks, pulled on a pair of pants and grabbed his Pain Train. Not that he intended to hurt anybody, but it was still good to threaten people with. Adrian turned the knob on his door, opening it enough so that he could stick out his head and weapon, and slurred out:

" 'Ey, what're you'll arguin' abo-"

Adrian froze the instant his eyes locked on the freakish creature standing opposite his Sniper. The reptilian skin, the torn-up red suit, the freakishly long tail...

Despite all logic concerning the drunken bastards consisting of Adrian's class, he put two and two together- and slammed the door, the clear rustling and clanking of clothes and weapons heard from within.

Slowly, sullenly, the BLU respawn system cranked back up to functioning power, and spat Ames out like a cat producing a hairball. The Soldier fell, landed more on his hands and knees than otherwise, and threw up onto the cool concrete floor in front of him without restraint. He paused for breath after a minute or so, eyes shut tight. Ames almost had it together- -and then the smell set him off again.
Uhhhhgod...
Not even that time in Cancun had been this bad, he thought, miserably.

...If there was anyone else in the room, the Soldier was for the moment completely unaware of it.

The monster's initial shock and confusion to the date that the Sniper provided gave way to a startled snarl at the Demo's intrusion. Even after the explosives 'expert' dashed back into his room, Jasper had his needle teeth bared with a hiss, tail raising to strike, if needed.

"Well, it seems your Demoman is less interested in diplomacy." the irate beast turned back to the Sniper, growling. "Unless you want to see me painted all over your base, perhaps we'll call this session of twenty questions off for the night, yes?"

Scowling at the monster, Enrico made no move to back down, instead putting his voice to good use.
"ADRIAN! GO BACK T'BED, I GOT THIS! AN' DON'T Y'FUCKIN' DARE BLOWIN' UP ANYTHIN' INSIDE!"
It hurt his throat to yell, and he'd probably woken up a few of the lighter sleepers, but if it kept the Demoman from doing something stupid, he could deal with whatever cranky teammates popped up. He frowned at the notion they were so close to the top of the stairs, there was only a short hall and then the barracks...
Yeah, keeping the monster on the staircase and away from sleeping teammates.
"Right. Jasper. Like I said, y'thirty years off. It's July, 199X. The fifteenth. An' until rather recently, you were a 15 foot long man-eating swamp monster. Recognize the patternin' on that tail'a yours, got t'see it right up close before y'snapped me in half. Could say I have a bit of a grudge against that."

Ames I'm sorry we're ignoring you I'm trying not to get shot

Postby Tentacles » Mon Aug 20, 2012 1:49 pm

The monster went silent, staring blankly at the Sniper. Seconds stretched by as the Spy's foggy mind tried to process what this idiot was claiming.

And then he started laughing.

It was hardly a laugh becoming of someone of his class, deep and manic, almost hysterical, not to mention wildly distorted as each bellow erupted from inhuman lungs.

Jasper took almost a full minute to catch his breath, spraying the stairs with a bit of bright red blood for his trouble. "That's a good one, my dear BLU. Why don't you tell another one?"

The Sniper scowled, eyes narrowing in a sharp and supremely unamused glare that would have melted through titanium if a person's gaze could project heat.
"Yeah, laugh it up, doubt Henry'll be very pleased t'know the thing that ate his leg is still around."
A pause, gaze darting over the not-quite-monster.
"Sort of."
