Hanging on by a thread (Needs a Doc, and a few curious eyes)

The BLU barracks lie here. The BLU logo that lies above it hangs from a nail, the sloppily painted BLU logo scraping off with age. The windows are boarded up, the nails that hold the boards there rusty from exposure. You swear you see a large spiderweb out of the corner of your eye, but can't bear to look. The floorboards creak as you move inside, and the light coating of dust compliments the cobwebs and aged wood inside. It looks like someone recently halfheartedly tried to clean up the place. They didn't do a very good job of it.

It was neither cold or hot on this day. The swamp just outside of BLU base seemed quiet as usual. Maybe a bird chirping here or there, maybe a bellow of a lazy alligator. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary... until the area was greeted to a faint snapping of brush.

In a small thicket of a combination of young trees, boxwood, and a brier patch, something fell down to rest on a small bed of pine needles. Rufus, the RED Medic from the other side had fallen into this small hole of a bundle, his wheelchair falling to one side. The medical blanket still covered his lower half, but his upper half was shown no mercy to the scratchings of brier thorns. Not that he noticed the small sharp pains when they were covered by greater pains of his illness. He lays there, almost perfectly hidden from view if not for the white blanket. The German barely breaths, wheezing in dryly with his eyes closed.

Somehow a spark of animal instinct, normally ignored and forgotten by the grumpy medic, had managed to implant into his weakening system that it was for the best if he left the team, his 'pod' to go find a quiet place to laid down his final rest. The man never had time to think of putting on clothes, so hot to the touch all the while his hidden dolphin tail looked as if beaten up to a pulp, blood ebbing out with some clear fluid. It didn't matter now. They were out of medicine and if he respawned, he would only return with the illness still in him to feast upon his energy and body once again slowly.

Dehydrated, weak and exhausted... Rufus awaits for the final moments to end his suffering... even if it meant staying out here for days.

It was pretty much an average day for the BLU's Head (and currently only) Medic, the vast majority of his time spent struggling through the combined paperwork of 4 Medics and their missing Leader, on top of the basic supply requests and other notes of importance to keep the base running at least in a passable fashion. Even with periodic breaks to hydrate himself and occasionally grab something to nibble, it was slow going.
"Gott, if I did not know any besser, I vould zhink zhey vere breeding..."
Gerhard rubbed a hand tiredly over his eyes, setting down his pen and pushing himself upright to pace around the Infirmary for a little bit fo R'n'R. He paused at the sink, turning on the tap to get himself a glass of water in an attempt to clear his brain of the blue lettering that seemed to have permanently stained itself onto the backs of his eyelids.
Waiting for the glass to fill, the TentaMedic idly glanced out the small window that was set over the sink.
He quite liked that little window, how it afforded him a rather nice panoramic view of the bases and the surrounding swamp, provided a fresh breeze when he kept it cracked just so. The vantage point had allowed him to intervene on quite a few rather stressing encounters, the one that most quickly sprang into his mind the arrival of that one Medic that had frightened little Fritz so badly he fainted...
Lost in thought, he almost missed it, a faint flash of white out of the corner of his eye.

A pause, a startled blink, and he turned to look. White was very much not a color native to this environment...
It took him a moment, but he found it again, a small rumpled spot barely visible under a patch of bramble bushes just across the swamp but a pretty fair distance from the main RED base.
Stray laundry? Someone out for a nap...?
The BLU doctor frowned, an edge of anxiety niggling at the back of his mind.
Something wasn't right here, and damn him if he wasn't going to figure out what it was.

Turning off the tap, Gerhard grabbed his coat as made for the door, pausing in a moment of thought before he grabbed his gloves and the small bag he kept by the door, just in case of emergencies.
A moment to tape a note to his door informing the rest of the base where he'd gone and what he was up to, and he was off, making his way towards the various wooden walkways that crossed between the two bases. Normally, he would have swum there, since it was the quicker, more direct way, but every since Henry had lost his leg, everyone of BLU was taking extra caution to stay the hell away from the water. At least, they were supposed to.

It took much longer than he would have liked to make his way towards that patch of white, pausing a moment as his ears picked up some kind of commotion going on in the RED base, but he forcefully reminded himself that it was none of his business and there was something else he was doing. One thing at a time, or nothing got done.
He picked his way towards the bushes, listening for anything untoward as he skirted around roots and lumps of growth, and felt a small stir of worry as he found himself just barely able to pick out the sound of someone breathing. Weak and faint and hoarse, but there.

And then he very nearly tripped over a wheelchair.

"Gottverdammnt-! Was...?"
Well, that certainly wasn't something you came across every day... Wait, wasn't one of the REDs confined to a wheelchair? Quiet sort of fellow, never saw him much out of the base... Their Medic?
Gerhard swallowed, inching forward as he carefully moved to part the bushes, nose wrinkling as he caught the scent of something rotten.
"Hallo...? Oh mein Gott!"
He almost dropped his medical bag, so startled was he by what he found hidden by the brambles. An older man, his skin near-translucent pale and hot to the touch even through his gloves, barely breathing...
The TentaMedic was kneeling at the man's side without a moment's further thought, his medical bag popped open with a tentacle rummaging for a thermometer as he pushed the wheelchair out of his way with another couple appendages, his hands busy testing the man's pulse. A tentacle moved to pull away the white, blood-spotted blanket covering his patient's lower half, the Medic needing to see just what exactly was wrong down there.
"It's alright, meirn Herr, I'm here, don't vorry, I'm going to take care of you, it's alright..."

Henry was out for a stroll, working out the kinks in his new appendage. It was mostly stable, and well waterproofed to keep it from decaying in the humidity, but it had a nasty tendency to rotate clockwise at the ankle, like a battered grocery cart, and a good walk would likely push all of the bits into their proper place. he felt good, though, watching it leave behind footprints like those of a mutated raptor. After careful consideration, he had given it the foot of a dragon, with four pointed claws and a large hooked heel. It has taken some getting used to to keep balanced, but he felt the sheer level of awesome made up for the brief moments of inconvenience.

Trudging through the mud, he was somewhat surprised to see Gerhard running outside, another component far from its usual place. When he ducked behind a bundle of trees and hedges, henry couldn't help but be tempted. He followed the medic's path carefully, watching the swishing marks that his disguised tentacles left in the mud, and when he spotted the white coat, he crouched to remain hidden.

Creeping silently through the foliage, he stood behind his teammate. On a count of three, he swiftly stepped into full view of the small patch of green, and announced his presence to the world, all at once registering the medic, and another, less familar bit of white. "HEEEEeeeeyy... The hell is this guy doing here?"

The blonde's pulse barely pumped through Gerhard's hand, slow and weak. There was no response out of Rufus, too weak to register in his mind that help finally came, even though it came in the form of the enemy. His breathing was still labored and slow, and a temperature of 102.4 didn't help in the situation.

Normally if Rufus was awake and alert, he would of slapped Gerhard's hand away from touching the bloodied medical blanket. So now, his secret was revealed. The dark pink dolphin tail attached perfectly at the hip with no blending of pigment between human and dolphin was covered in dark red splotches, oozing sores and peeling skin. The scent of rot was enough to drive a weak stomach or in this case, start attaching the flies. Rufus's upper torso, arms and face was cut by the brambles, a few thrones having snapped off their vines embedded in his sickly skin.

At having his side touched, it made the RED Medic managed a weak shudder of pain in his breath before letting out a soft moan.

"Oh Gott im Himmel..."
How long had the man been like this? The smell alone was revolting but the sores, bleeding and oozing- Gerhard swallowed hard, feeling his stomach turn even as he scrambled for a bottle of disinfectant and a pair of tweezers.
He very nearly jumped out of his skin at the abrupt arrival of his teammate, voicing a soft gasp as he jerked around to see who it was that had snuck up on him. Normally, he would have reprimanded the Engineer for his meandering, especially so soon after having his leg first amputated and then replaced, but right now, there was someone dying practically in his lap.
"Henry, go back to mein Infirmary, prepare vone of zhe long term beds in zhe back for mich und get Madison. I'll need her help getting him to safety, zhe tail most certainly vill not be light."
It didn't matter to him that the person he was treating had a dolphin tail, or even that he was on the opposite team. He simply saw someone in dire need of medical attention, and promptly moved to provide that attention to the very best of his ability. One of the few altruistic doctors, something he would have said had come from treating patients who could only tell the truth themselves.
Gerhard settled a hand on his patient's shoulder, tweezers in hand to remove the painful little thorns while his tentacles used a bit of cloth and the disinfectant to wipe the merman's ruined tail clean.

Henry gave a quick salute, and ran towards the base. Not three steps in, he fell to his face as his mechanized foot turned a full circle under its own power, throwing his balance far out of reach. Ignoring this, he scrambled back onto his feet and continued his dash. As soon as he passed through the front door, he called out. "Maddyyyyy! Front yard, NOW!"

he passed into the infirmary, yanked all but the sheets and a pillow off of one of the over-night beds and cleared an easy path to it before deciding to just wheel it into the more open main portion of the facility.

Madison was beginning to doze off while reading a book she had pilfered from the library, when she heard the clank of Henry's metal leg on the linoleum, and his rather loud call for help. She started awake and grumbled, getting out of her rather comfy chair and sticking her head out of the doorway. "What's de matter Henry? You get your leg caught on somet'in' again?" No answer. By the time she had managed to get out he had already gone into the infirmary, which she hadn't seen. "Henry?"

God damn it. She grumbled some more and trudged outside to the front yard as requested. He wasn't even there. She saw the distinctive tracks of both Gerhard and Henry in the mud, the latter having made two trips. Unable to contain her curiosity, she followed them into the swamp. She soon came upon her tentacled friend leaning over someone else, fretting as usual.

"Hey Ger," she said, approaching him. "Did Henry go an' do somet'in' stupid agai-- OH MY GOD." Her jaw hung open as she registered that he wasn't leaning over Henry, but someone she didn't know, and a hybrid at that. And that hybrid's lower half looked like it had been through a food processor. And the smell, oh god, that was disgusting. She watched in silent horror for a minute before finally speaking up: "De fuck happened here...?"

The hybrid doctor didn't even flinch at the sudden exclamation from behind him, busy getting his patient ready for travel, his own coat being stripped off to use as a replacement for the stained blanket that had been covering the man's lower half.
"He ist dying, some kind of very advanced form of bacterial infection. If I can't get him zhe proper medication in time, his body vill burn itself out trying to scorch out zhe infection. But he ist too heavy for mich to carry on mein own."
He looked back over his shoulder towards the stunned lady Heavy, his tentacles still busy cleaning and disinfecting as much as he could.
"I need you help to save him."

Madison looked from Gerhard to the downed man. She could see now that he was a RED, but that didn't bother her too much, and it didn't seem to bother Gerhard either. Well, she could ask questions later. She nodded silently to the conscious medic, swallowing her nausea. She waited until Gerhard had finished disinfecting and helped secure the coat around the man's filthy lower half. With a groan, she picked him up by his underarms, and then hoisted him over her shoulder.

Truth be told, he was much heavier than she anticipated, and his tail made him rather unwieldy, but Madison didn't let that show. It was either her or nothing, and there was no way Gerhard could treat him out here in the swamp. "I'll take him back to de infirmary. D'you need any help wit' your supplies here, or should I just go?"

Moving to stand, Gerhard quickly packed away the soiled cloths he'd used to clean his patient and snapped his medical bag close, letting a tentacle grab it as he turned to help Madison with the burden of the sickly half-dolphin.
"Henry shouldt be zhere already, I asked him to prepare a bed. I have a feelingk zhat zhis fellow vill need quvite some time to recover..."

With the doctor leading the way, warning the Heavy of roots and pushing brambles and branches out of their path, it wasn't too long before they'd reached the main bridge that crossed over the swamp. The Medic paused a moment, looking back towards the RED base, and then shook his head.
He would have to inform them of their teammate's whereabouts eventually, but right now, getting the man stabilized was the primary objective.

Henry stood on the steps of the front porch, tapping his foot incessantly. When he saw his team-mates in the distance, he bucked into a run, doing what he could to take some weight off of Maddy's shoulders by lifting the diseased tail as best he could. As he trudged along, minding the stairs, he addressed the medic. "The bed's in the main room of the infirmary. There's plenty of space around, and I put out a few buckets of water just in case. He's going to need a soaking tank, right? I'll get one cleaned out and operational within the hour."

Once they ha made it into the infirmary, he carefully laid his end onto the foot of the bed, tryign not to trip over the buckets he had surrounded it with.

A single clang and clink of a loaded rifle caused a wave of silence for what seemed like an eternity before the trio turned to look towards the infirmary doors.

Enrico held his rifle up, eyes akin to that of a hunter than a friendly face as he gave the sick RED a death stare. "Stand aside. I'm going to end its sorry existence which should of been done when ya found it Ger.." He states. "I don't want to shoot through ya to kill the RED. You all know as well as I do there IS still a war going on so unless I was ill-informed otherwise... Kill the enemy before 'e kills us. Who knows if it's contagious!"

The sniper had heard the commotion earlier and poked his head from his roost. When he witness the event of Gerhard and the others carrying in Rufus, he knew trouble was up. Still set in his old ways of being a BLU loyalist, he didn't like the idea of saving the enemy, Hippocratic Oath or not. To him, REDs were what they were suppose to be; the enemy. Nothing more, nothing less. Friendships were not suppose to occur across the battlefield in his time and it certainly shouldn't be now.

"I'm given ya to the count of five to move away. Don't make this difficult, what if it came here on purpose to poison us all!?" He said, not referring to Rufus as a 'he'. Sure Enrico liked hybrids, but if they were on RED team, it was no different than hunting wild game.

All the while poor Rufus is on his back, wheezing in breath which begins to slow.

The only warning that the Sniper would get was a rough growl that sounded as if it had been torn from the throat of some kind of giant feline monster that had gone hungry for far too long.
A length of blue shot out, twining around the Sniper's rifle and causing the metal to squeal like an animal in pain as it was twisted and bent out of shape before being wrenched from the man's hands entirely, flung across the room with enough force for the wall tiles to crack on impact.
The Medic's human disguise had been off for some time, but only now did the man appear monstrous, his tentacles writhing anxiously like a nest of shimmering blue-spotted snakes that flickered across the white floor tiles, twining around the Sniper's ankles and wrists to bring him face to face with a mouthful of sharp fangs and horizontal pupils narrowed into the barest slits. Gloved hands gripped the marksman's shoulders, hidden claws fighting to break through the barrier of thick latex and dig into skin.
"If you ever even attempt to zhreaten vone of mein patients ever again, I vill pump you so full of narcotics zhat you vill believe yourself to be a six year old girl at a tea party. Do I make meinself clear?"

Though Madison had enough strength to carry the sick medic on her own, she was grateful for Gerhard's assistance with clearing the path, and for Henry's help to set him down safely. She was about ready to let the Engineer and Medic begin the more technical work when the recently-dead Sniper stepped into the room with his gun leveled. An impressive display of bravado, but highly inappropriate for the situation. She couldn't help but smile a bit at Gerhard's display of anger.

"Easy now, Ger," she said, walking over to her medic friend and putting her hand on his shoulder. "I'll handle dis. You go take care of de sick guy, he won't last much longer." Gently pushing the doctor aside, she took the liberty of grabbing the Sniper by the front of his shirt and bending down, bringing his face close to hers. "It's an infection, dat's not contagious unless y' tried t' get it. I ain't even a doctor and even I know dat." She looked into his eyes, unafraid, her face an expression of calm seriousness. "An' I was hopin' after Henry got his leg bit off dat you'd realize we have bigger problems t' deal wit' den jus' fightin', and dat by de ceasefire dat we're not under normal circumstances."

She looked back over at the bedridden hybrid and back at the Sniper. "Desperate times call for desperate measures, an' he'll die if we don't do somet'in'. If it's a trap, we can kill him, but if it's not, dis might help us in de long run. Unless, dat is, you value de motives of de companies over your own survival."

Henry listened to the conversation, and watched the action. As it unfolded, he bent down and began unfastening the joints of his leg. After some time, he managed to get it off, leaving only it's base on his hip. He hopped over to where maddy held the sniper in a deathly grip and, taking the expedient route, conked him over the head with the heavy metal leg. If he wasn't now unconcious, he certainly wouldn't feel good.

"I think that just about covers my sentiments on the subject. Hey Jerry, do we have the stuff he needs, or am I gonna have to pull something out my ever-productive ass on this one?"

Thank goodness it wasn't his favorite rifle that became nothing more than wasted twisted metal. Enrico found himself snatched by the TentaMedic, starring into those bizarre eyes. He merely lets out a groan, his expression still sticking to his ingrained loyalties. It was Madison to finally pull the two aside and explained what was going on. "Madison... you do realize if you and Ger save this hybrid, it ain't gonna return the favor. Not everyone is buddy-buddy and I'm just trying to look out for everyone he-OW DAMNIT SONOFABITCH!"

Enrico was cut short when a heavy metal leg came crashing on top of his head. Good thing he had his western style hat on or else it would of been far worse. He pulls out of Madison's grasp, grasping the top of his head as the world spun with stars. He starts swearing up and down, feeling the skin and slim section of muscle balloon out into a goose-egg size bump. He glares at Henry, still rubbing he sore spot. "Fuckin' hell what was that for?! I didn't deserve that!" He growls out. "Fuck.. everything's spinning... Looks like a tabloid in a blender..."

That was a lot of noise and a lot of voices at once. The last time there had been this much noise, Henry had lost a limb. By that logic, it made perfect sense for 12 to be hanging around just in the edge of the event, watching and trying not to be noticed. He still hadn't judged whether or not Enrico was acceptable, and having an unproven teammate was a bit more unsettling than he thought it'd be. Thankfully, he was far enough away to avoid the smell, but the sight was pretty obvious--Gerhard had found an unfamiliar hybrid somewhere, and he didn't seem to be doing good at all. From his perch on the roof, 12 had a good vantage point, and he got an eyeful of Enrico's...well, thing with the rifle and Gerhard's violent reaction to it. He shuddered, leaning forward over the edge to get a better angle.

It was fairly obvious that this hybrid wasn't on their team--which meant that he was mos likely a RED. As much as he didn't like the thought of a RED in his base, he'd just have to deal with it. Gerhard was their leader, and he was the one taking care of this guy. It wasn't as if he really felt he had any right to question the Medic's actions in the first place, either--he was just a bird, whereas Gerhard was in charge. He didn't want to upset whatever chain of command had fallen into place by being stupid. When Madison moved to confront the Sniper, 12 decided to get a little closer, scanning the area for a spot to land. He could just come in behind where they had--that seemed like a good plan. After taking a deep breath, he took off, landing as quickly as he could and slowly edging up behind the commotion. The smell was evident now, and he wrinkled his nose, looking over at Rufus with a frown. What did that guy even have, anyway? Whatever it was, it had to be pretty nasty to smell like that. Henry's added assault was noted with a stifled snort, the Engineer's addition to Madison's display just ridiculous. That was one way to get a point across...

Unsure of anything to say, the Scout merely stood at this point, completely averting his eyes from Gerhard. He wasn't going to look while the Tentamedic was still being horrifyingly angry, nope. Enrico's outburst was getting his attention now anyway, earning a disapproving look and a mildly irritated feather ruffling. Why was everybody just yelling today?

Gerhard almost growled at Madison for intervening, but he managed to rein himself in enough to see the logic in her actions, leaving the Sniper in her capable hands with one last parting glare and a number of red sucker marks impressed upon the man's skin where they had been gripping just a tad hard.
"Nein, I have zhe required antibiotics, I just don't know how much zhis infection vill take..."
He trailed off, visibly bristling as Enrico attempted to explain himself into the right, the speckles of color across the TentaMedic's body almost seeming to twitch as the navy and cobalt splatters darkened to near black, making the pale blue rings marked down his tentacles almost seem to glow. It was pretty obvious that the doctor was two shades from livid, and if the Sniper hadn't been cut off by Henry's abrupt actions, a tentacle would have surely made its way towards the man's neck.
As it was, Gerhard forced himself to take a deep breath, focusing on the issue at hand.

He moved quickly, dragging a tank of oxygen out from under the sink and grabbing a bottle of disinfectant before he dug into a nearby drawer, pulling out a good half dozen plastic based disposable syringes, each one filled with a pale pink-ish fluid. The Medic quickly strapped an oxygen mask over the sick man's mouth and nose, providing the injured party with a little extra help before he turned to the syringes, tapping the bubbles out of one and squirting out a little of the fluid before he peeled open his coat, ignoring the rusty stains as he slid the hypodermic into the man's hip. He counted backwards from 30 in his head, then took another syringe, injecting antibiotics into the man's upper body via the crook of his elbow. The rest of the syringes he kept nearby, just in case, even as a tentacle tossed the used syringes into a bio-hazard bin and he moved to swabbing the ugly sores with disinfectant.
It could take upwards of a few minutes for the stuff to kick in, he just had to worry about keeping the man alive long enough for the antibiotics to take effect...

Madison unknowingly loosened her grip a bit on the Sniper's shirt when Henry decided to smack the guy over the head with his prosthesis, her surprise ultimately allowing him to wriggle free. "Aw, come on Henry, dat was a little excessive. I t'ink Ger an' me made our point already." Ah, well, at least the immediate threat was over. That looked like it hurt though, and she couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy. Still, Gerhard was in a deadly mood, and she wasn't about to tempt fate.

"Look, Enrico, y' don't know what'll happen. He might be grateful, he might not. But I and Henry and Ger can't wit' good conscience jus' let him die. Like I said, if he tries anyt'in', we have de advantage. He's dehydrated and dyin' and not even conscious. Hell, we can even hold him hostage if it comes t' dat." She sincerely hoped it wouldn't, though. She was realizing now that they hadn't told the Sniper the entire story behind his resurrection. Namely that two REDs had helped them, and one had even died in the process.

But she couldn't explain it now with the Kiwi in the state he was in. She looked over at the (hopefully less) angry Medic. "Hey, y' got an ice pack? He looks like he's gonna fall over."

Now that things had seemingly calmed down, 12 decided to make his presence known, moving up to a new position a bit behind Gerhard. He spared the RED a quick glance, the state he was in all the more terrible up close. How had he even made it this long with all...that? It looked like he'd been like this for a while. The hybrid adjusted his wings, tearing his eyes away to watch their not-really-new Sniper. Getting hit with an entire metal leg had to hurt, and he was a bit impressed he hadn't bowled over from that. It did appear to be a pretty heavy thing, though it gave him the heebie-jeebies. Maybe he'd get used to it soon. Henry seemed to be comfortable with it already, which was surprising, especially considering the time span between the actual injury and this. Well, you couldn't say the Engineer didn't work fast, anyway.

He cleared his throat, trying not to regret his decision to appear. "What's up with this guy, here...?" He gestured to the enemy hybrid with a wing, tucking it back into place as soon as he could. Gerhard was busy tending to their...unexpected guest, so he didn't really expect an answer out of him. Perhaps somebody else here knew what was going on?
