Name: Eugene Ross Jefferson. Often goes by Gene.
Age: Thirty-seven.
Date of Birth: August 15th, 1952.
Team Favorite Color: Red.
Class: Engineer
Gender: Male.
Languages: English and French.

Loadout:
Primary: Shotgun
Secondary: Pistol
Melee: Jag

Personality: Calm and collected, Gene is often referred to as the sane man. He can put up with a lot and not even break a sweat. As the oldest of three, he's always shouldered a lot of responsibility. He's used to looking after others and doesn't mind being the one to hang back and hold down the fort. He's like a pillar, unimpressive on his own, but he holds up the greater picture; without him, things fall apart. Of course, Gene isn't all work and no play. He's got a sharp tongue and quick wit. His sense of humor fluctuates between subtle and biting. Once Gene establishes a social circle within a new context, he's the sort to stick by them and doesn't venture far. He's welcoming, yes, but he doesn't need a large support web. People come to him, not the other way around.

In reality, Gene has a few personal demons lingering beneath his cool facade. He can become overbearing in tense situations - the joking persona vanishes without a word and he'll bark with the tenacity of a traditional Soldier.

Sexuality: Demisexual. (Since the term 'demisexual' was coined rather recently to my knowledge, Gene would sooner think of himself as asexual than anything else. However, he experiences sexual attraction based on how close he grows to a person - male or female, doesn't matter.)

Strengths:
Level-headed - He won't go running headlong into enemy fire. If he has to take a risk, it'll be a calculated one.
Difficult to ruffle - Few things get under his skin. Immature jabs aren't one of them. The battlefield is a stressful zone and staying calm is one of the most valuable assets out there; Gene knows this.
Civil - He gets along with most folks and that goes the same for his team. BLU, on the other hand? He'll be merciless.

Weaknesses:
Co-dependent - He's quick to latch onto people and find bonds and remains deathly loyal to them. He needs someone to need him.
Laidback - He's not one to scold if his colleagues do something stupid. In fact, he might just point and laugh.
Overprotective - On the other hand, if he has reason to worry, he will hound everyone to cut the crap out and listen to him.
Nightmares - This isn't the first war he's ever been in, and the memories still haunt him.

History: Born in Louisiana, Gene's parents took him across the nation at the tender age of six. His memories before that are blurry at best. His brother, Tom, remembered even less since he was only 4 at the time. Gene spent the rest of his childhood growing up in Texas. His sister came along when he was eight. The younger ones often got into trouble, and Gene took skipping school to watch them as a welcome respite. He's always been rather family-oriented because of his upbringing.

In 1971, when Gene was 19, he enlisted in the Vietnam War as a medic. He saw the horrors of war, realized that it wasn't all that glorious, and couldn't wait to go home. Against his wishes, his brother enlisted the following year. On May 10th, his brother was killed in combat. Gene became more withdrawn after that. He's never eaten birthday cake since. What's there to celebrate when the war didn't end soon enough to save his brother? --still, Gene returned to school. Struggled through it, really, but he managed to earn a degree in Physics and he put his minor in Engineering to use.

As for why he's enlisted in another war, well, there are numerous reasons (seeking catharsis, feeling close to his brother, plain stupid curiosity), but misdirected rage stands out the most. Either that or he's got a death wish.

Nationality: American.
Ethnicity: Franco-American, but he hides it well. He's only a quarter French anyhow.

Appearance:
Hair Color: Brown
Eye color: Blue
Height: 5'2" (157cm)
Weight: 132lbs (60kg)

Broad-shouldered and stout, Gene wound up with a mixed bag of... genes. He has his mother's crystal clear eyes - though they're set deeper - and his father's coarse hair which licks at his ears. Gene's hair tends to fly all over the place due to his constant upholding of the uniform dress code (he rarely takes off his helmet, deal with it.) He has a square jaw that juts out beyond his flat nose, and with the right amount of effort, he can look downright menacing for such a small fellow. His clothes are fairly thick, too, so it looks as though he's hiding a beer belly. In actuality, he's still very fit from his younger years; it'd have been a shame to let those muscles fade. He also walks with a very poised gait. He hasn't forgotten a thing about how to march.

He kept his brother's dogtags from 'Nam and wears them under his RED shirt to serve as a reminder of why he's fighting. Outside of uniform, you'd find him wearing simple t-shirts and khakis.

First Person Sample: It'd been a long time since I felt the presence of strangers so profoundly. Weaving through a crowd back home, I wouldn't have given anyone a single thought. But here, in this confined space, this rumbling cart that keeps on screeching, I noticed their eyes on me. Their eyes on each other. Like hawks. A contract was all that kept the men at bay, restraining them from leaping out of their chairs and flinging themselves at each other, demanding to know, "What are you looking at?!" The tension was suffocating. I kept my eyes out the window, not caring for the sights or lackthereof. It must've been the short route, versus the scenic. I took a deep breath and didn't bother offering any reassurances. If someone wanted to start a chat, let them. This was one nest I didn't want to poke at.

So there I sat, listening to the thoughts in my own mind. I could hear them, my old comrades, some of them yelling out warnings, others pleading for me to run faster. So many times, I'd been too late. So many times, I couldn't even recognize the bodies. But here, I wouldn't let that happen. I'd defend my men to the very last breath; I refused to see any of them fall before myself.

I'd join them on the frontlines.

Third Person Sample: Gene scowls at another sticky bomb soaring overhead, careening towards his gear. One press of the finger is all it takes to deposit a shell through the sky; one of the fragments catches the explosive and the impact renders both in a crackling boom! and smoke. He whips around and sees two more at his feet. Leaping back, he aims at the stickies, and grimaces at the empty click.

Eugene ducks away and debris kicks up at him. Better the Sentry than his own life. He scrambles to his feet and ducks behind his Dispenser just long enough to get a buzz. With the extra boost of adrenaline and a moment's reprieve, he hurries out of his hiding spot and looks for higher ground. He'll have to build a nest from scratch, but anything's better than facing Respawn.

You’ve been accepted to RED, you lone brother.

We note that we reserve the right to turn off respawn just as all of your friends are gunned down, then turn on respawn just for you. We also note that we reserve the right to bottle your tears, and give them to the other team for a job well done.

Remember, your team’s activities can be accessed here.
You are required to make a introductory thread in the Docks, even if you don’t get any replies. This is an important process, and should be done the same day you are accepted. Though, as you are a returning member, you may opt out.

Please remember the rules, and that you are allowed to update your application with information on your character; we have specifically designed the app for this purpose. After beginning your dock thread, tag as you like.

Remember: We at RED do not support friendships with the enemy. All of these friendships will be found. And destroyed.

That would wrap up our time with you, Geney dear. Enjoy your nightmares! Tom did deserve it, after all.

Enjoy your time on RED!
