We Freaks Need to Stick Together (Specials Only)

Gerhard:
If there was one thing that Gerhard could say he enjoyed about his less-than-human form, it was swimming.
He'd been an avid swimmer during his college years, though he'd never been the competitive sort, and the ability to not only swim well, but for long periods of time without having to worry about breathing or anything...
It was positively liberating.
Thus, it was really no surprise to find the Medic slipping out of the base in the early morning before the rest of his currently minute team awoke for a quick swim. Sure, the swamp was rife with leeches and frogs and snakes and other unpleasantries, but the too-clean indoor tank just wasn't cutting it, and he figured; What the hell, the crocodile could do it, so could he.
Careful to keep an eye out for critters (and enemy team members), the doctor snuck down to the water's edge a little ways from the main battlefield, double checking the surroundings before he flicked off his human disguise, the hologramatic image fizzling out like an old television with bad reception to reveal skin paled from copper-based blood and the mass of speckled blue tentacles normally hidden under the guise of legs.
He stripped off his clothing without ceremony, just his shirt, gloves and glasses this early, and he carefully tucked the bulky pocketwatch that acted as a basic Disguise Kit into a glove to keep it dry and safe.
That done, he didn't hesitate to slide into the water, slipping under the murky surface with barely a ripple.
For the first time since his arrival, Gerhard smiled, a true smile that bared sharp white teeth and stretched across his face as his gills flared, taking over for his lungs.
Yes, this made the tentacles almost worth it.

Jacque:
The sun was beginning to rise, perfect for Jacque to lay out on the bank and sunbathe. The halfling was laid out on the ground, large body spread out to try and soak up as much of the sun's heat as possible. A heron was standing on his back, not really caring that it was stepping all over the gator body, also enjoying the sun's rays. Jacque didn't mind the company, he was used to birds and other critters hitching a ride or invading his personal space.

The bird tensed before quickly jumping off his back and flying away off into the swamp, something having spooked it, whatever it was, it got no reaction out of the half-asleep Sniper....

He let out a small yawn before laying his chin on his forearm. With each breath he took, not only did his human chest rise... his scaly gator body's chest rose showing that he had two sets of lungs... this was especially helpful when he had to hold his breath for long periods of time, being able to stay underwater for hours...

Riley:
Sleeping in the swamp to avoid his crazed teammate had left Riley's body cramp and stiff and his mood abysmal. Luckily, he had some dried jerky in his bag which he had been fortunate enough to not leave behind. Plodding through the water, bag over his shoulder and jerky in hand and mouth, he headed back toward the base or what he guessed was. It was easy to get turned around in a place like this.

The Sniper paused momentarily at the sight of an island and also of the fellow Sniper he had encountered previously. It was a relief to see a friendly face and he hurried over, uncaring of the noise he made, nor the fact that he had to swim a bit of the way, bag getting soaked even though he held it atop his head.

"Mornin'." Sitting down besides Jacque, Riley set his bag down next to him and looked over to the scaly man. The warmth of the rising sun felt nice and he could easily see hwy Jacque had picked his spot to lay.

Gerhard:
Unaware of the other special cases out enjoying the morning sun, the half-octopus Medic swam aimlessly through the somewhat silty water, pausing here and there to investigate the small nooks and crannies that happened to catch his eye in the gloom, the animal in him pinpointing hiding places and possible sources of food. He almost swam into the little island, distracted by some kind of large fish nosing along the bottom and wondering if it would be good to eat when an idle tentacle informed him of the obstruction.
Startled, he jerked away from the lump of mud and eroded rock, only to have his curiosity peaked upon seeing some kind of cave dug into the base of it.
Figuring he still had some time before anybody would be awake and start wondering where their Medic had gone, Gerhard moved to investigate, his bright blue tentacles poking into the dark area before he followed himself. Ooo, bigger on the inside...

Jacque:
The splashing got his attention... but he still didn't move, too busy enjoying the warm sun... He heard someone walk over and plop down right beside him, the voice familiar, the accent giving him away instantly.

One of his eyes cracks open faintly, shifting to look up at the other Sniper, his lips curling into a smile. He could smell the others beef jerky, and wondered if he would share, after all he hadn't had anything to eat yet today.

"Mornin'." He waved his fingers a bit at the other, head still resting on his arm. "What brings ya out into the swamp this time 'round?" He hoped he hadn't gotten himself into trouble or wasn't lost again...

It was a nice morning, though a bit colder than usual, probably a northern wind blowing through. It was a bit foggy... but nothing that would keep him from finding his way back to the base, he knew this place like the back of his hand.

Riley:
"Oi, uh, slept out here t'try n' get a feel for the land." It wasn't a complete lie, really. If he was going to steer clear of the base and the maniac who lurked inside, he would have to find his way around the swamps, maybe squat down in the warehouse he saw across the water. Better not to tell Jacque the second reason why he was hiding out here, no need to trouble the man after he'd been so kind.

Chewing thoughtfully on his piece of jerky, he enjoyed the growing warmth of the sun. He was almost tempted to take off his shirt to expose his scales but his nerve faulted and he resigned himself to staying clothed.

"...Hungry?"

Gerhard:
Exploring the dug out dirt cave, the Medic was surprised to find himself growing short of breath, the slight current of the water outside unable to circulate into the enclosed space and refresh the oxygen supply. A note of panic came to his mind, and he cast about frantically for the way out. Seeing light, he went for it, bursting up through a hole into the open air with a loud splattering of water and displaced earth, coughing as his breathing switched from gills to lungs.
"Unh... Schlechte Idee..."

Jacque:
"Slept outside eh? How was it? Did ya get a look at any of the local gators or snakes? They like comin' out at night." He hoped that they hadn't bothered the skittish sniper too much... though he knew the man more than likely was terrified half the night, with all the strange noises all around him.

He lifted his head a bit wen he was asked if he was hungry. "A bit... Could I have a piece?" He questioned, hoping that the other wouldn't mind. He was still too groggy to go hunting just yet, so he would have to settle for the piece of dried and salted meat.

The sudden sound of water breaking startled him, quickly baring his razor sharp teeth and turning towards where he'd heard the sound. His tail curled in close, ready to swing hard at anybody who got too close...

Riley:

"...It was...noisy. Slept in a tree actually." Finishing off the rest of his jerky, he nodded, reaching over to his bag to fish out the bag of jerky when his attention was drawn to the sound of something surfacing. Immediately, he was on his feet, kukri half drawn as he tried to peer into the fog to see what had caused it. His night in the swamp and his encounter with that maniac had left him wound up tighter than he had been in ages. "...Wot do yeh think it is?" Riley kept his voice low, barely daring to breath.

Gerhard:
Still coughing, the Medic wasn't even aware there were others until he heard that distinctly Australian accent, perking up immediately and casting about. Damn it, he hated how much his eyesight sucked on land-!
"Allo? Who ist zhere?"
Covering another cough with one clawed hand, Gerhard made a face at tasting dirt and shook off the mud that had streaked his hands like a cat who'd tromped through a puddle.

Jacque:
An animistic hiss escaped the Sniper's throat as he sat there, eyes trying to focus in the fog, searching for the source. He could be quite vicious when he needed to be... but that was rare, usually only when he got startled or when he was being cornered.

He relaxed a bit when he heard the familiar voice. His Medic, Gerhard, was out here. Huh... he hadn't really expected that... The German sounded close, probably right by them but they just didn't notice.

"S' me doc, where are ya?" He questioned, looking around, trying to locate the man, sniffing the air a bit to try and catch his scent.

Riley:
The growling from his fellow Sniper was frightening and he took a step back, not wanting to aggravate him further. He doubted Jacque would hurt him intentionally but he knew that reptilian instincts could sometimes wrestle the controls away. While he was just as nervous as Jacque, he kept quiet, turning around quickly to check that this wasn't some sort of ambush though the fog made it difficult to tell.

Not recognizing the voice in the fog, Riley draw his kukri but halted in the process of raising it when Jacque called out to...the BLU's Medic? If Jacque was on good terms with him, despite the others condition, than he should be safe... Sheathing his knife despite his better judgement, he slowly sat back down, pulling his bag a little closer to him and anxiously waiting for the Medic to show himself. Riley couldn't smell him with all this water around, washing away every scent.

Gerhard:
"Jacque?"
The Medic twisted, squeezing himself a bit more out of the hole and just barely managing to catch himself when he realized his exit was angled along the slope of some kind of hillock, tentacles lashing out to brace against the grass as he tried to get a better look at his surroundings.
"I am sorry, mein freund, I cannicht see very vell above wasser. Vhere are you?"

Jacque:
The Sniper calmed himself down, glad that it was just the Medic. "'M on the bank..." He turned to Riley. "Wait here alright? Be back in a minute, gotta make sure the doc doesn't get all turned around in this fog..." He gave a warm smile to his companion before waddling off to look for the man...

Riley:
Blinking at the other, Riley nodded, curling his tail close to him and watching Jacque as long as he could before the fog swallowed him up. As nervous as he was, he wouldn't move from his spot, sitting tensely as he turned his head back and forth, still unconvinced that it was safe. It... It wasn't as if Jacque had commanded him to stay in place. It had just been a friendly suggestion of sorts though he didn't really know the other Sniper well enough to determine if he was some sort of power obsessed lunatic in private. It was wrong of him to doubt Jacque and he quickly swept those thoughts under his mental rug, focusing instead on busying himself with getting out the jerky as promised.

Gerhard:
Still casting about, the doctor stiffened a moment is shock upon seeing a short squat body coming towards him, calming when he recognized the odd silhouette of the gator-man. He pulled himself the rest of the way out of the hole, shaking his head to dislodge the dirt and mud that he could feel clinging to his hair as he got himself situated to standing.
"Ah, guten morgen, mein freund. Enjoying zhe sun, I assume?"

Jacque:
The Southerner smiled back once he'd gotten close enough to see the others face. It was good to see the Medic outside the infirmary, he needed to get out of that sterile environment sometime or another.

"'M doin' awlright doc, 'n yeah, gotta warm up. Why dontcha come on back with me over to the bank. Got someone y' might like t' meet... seems BLU ain't the only ones with guys like us." He smiled then turned away, beginning to waddle back to where he'd left Riley...

Riley:
Holding his jerky filled bag in his lap, he fiddling with the plastic, turning it over in his hands as he waited. He could hear the two of them conversing and from what he could make out, Jacque was good friends with the Medic. A little odd, he thought, but maybe this Medic was more accepting of oddities like the two of them.

Raising his head as he heard the two BLUs begin to make their way over, he put a smile on, wanting to look friendly but it faltered suddenly when he noticed that the Medic wasn't entirely human. Never had he thought he'd see someone with tentacles attached to their lower half. It was like something out of the science fiction books he loved. Who was he, a freak of nature, to judge what was unnatural? Forcing the lost smile onto his face, he stood up, waiting until the Medic was close enough to hear him. "G'day..."

Gerhard:
Having been trailing behind his teammate, Gerhard halted when he heard the new voice, the Australian he'd just barely heard before, and his brow furrowed curiously when he was finally able to pick out a patch of red amidst the dull greens and browns of the swamp.
A moment's fidgeting, and the Medic continued forward after his Sniper, albeit a few notches slower as he tried to gauge the possible threat of the RED.
"Allo. I assume zhat you are zhe ozzer Jacque vas telling mir about?"

Jacque:
"Yeah," Jacque waddled back over to where he had been lying earlier and sat back down, smiling as the two greeted each other. "Dun worry doc, he's not gonna cause any harm..." He patted the ground a bit for the German to come sit down for a bit with them.

Riley:
Catching the glance the...tentacled Medic was giving him, Riley tried to smooth out his old RED Sniper shirt, wishing that he'd had something else to change into that wasn't completely soaked. The darn thing was full of holes and covered with stains of unknown origins. Making a note to dry the rest of his clothing later, he looked back up toward the German, if he was judging the accent right, to give a smile and nod.

"Yeah. Name's Riley." Shifting his feet in the mud, he awkwardly stuck out his hand when the Medic ventured toward them. "Want some?" He added, holding up the bag of jerky for the Medic. Only polite to ask.

Gerhard:
"Ah, nein, but zhank you."
Well, at least the RED was polite.
Moving towards the pair, the Medic paused as he realized he was covered in mud and dirt from scrambling up through that hole, and he sighed, rolling his eyes as he shuffled over to the water. He slide in with ease, remaining under the surface only a few moments before he popped up again, hair wet and dangling in his face but no longer muddy.
Leaning on the bank between the two marksman, the doctor offered his hand to the one in RED.
"Gerhard. It ist nice to meet you."

Jacque:
Jacque gave a small smile as the two greeted each other, glad that things were going well. He ran a hand through his hair and laid out on the bank again, spreading his large body out to catch the warmth of the sun. He gave a small huff and brushed a leech off that had been trying to attach itself to his arm. "'S good t' see you two gettin' along. Ain't no reason to fight yet after all."

Riley:
Nodding, Riley lowered his hand as the Medic moved back into the water. At first, he was unsure of exactly what he was doing but when he emerged, clean of mud, the Sniper understood. Taking the spare seconds of time to put the jerky back down on his back, he stepped forward and took the Medic's hand, giving a quick, firm shake. "Pleasure t'meet yeh, uh, mate," he replied, hesitant to call the stranger a friend so quick. If his fellow Sniper was already pals with him though, he should be alright.

Gerhard:
The Medic's thin lips curled up in an easy smile, though close mouthed to keep from showing his sharp teeth, and he relaxed on the bank between the scaly pair.
It was a little strange for the tentacled hybrid to be so at ease, considering how stern he usually was around base, but he wasn't worrying about keeping up appearances or someone attacking him for something he'd had no control over and he was among friends, so he found it easy to simply relax for once.
He rested his head on his arms, his tentacles twisting lazily through the water and occasionally clinging to whatever happened to come by.
"Haf you two known each ozzer long?"

Jacque:
"Naw, We met a day or two ago, right?" He looked at Riley, his head a little fuzzy at the moment from still being a bit drowsy. He took a deep breath and then closed his eyes, listening to the quiet sounds of the swamp. "... So, how about the piece of beef jerky?" He questions, tail shifting a bit to thump against Riley, not in a threatening manner, just to get his attention.

Riley:
"Roight," he confirmed, nodding in Jacque's direction as he sat back down, curling his tail around so it fell across his lap. He'd learned early on to keep it close, just in case anyone stepped on it though the odds of that happening right now seemed small. Basking in the warmth of the sun like his fellow Sniper, he nearly missed the nudge, starting a few seconds afterward. "Sure..."

Opening the bag, he fished out a few strip of jerky for Jacque and handed them over, smiling. "Here yeh go."

Gerhard:
Gerhard watched as the dried meat changed hands, but expressed no interest, content to lie half-submerged with the partially clouded over sun warm against his back. He wasn't hungry just yet, and it was pretty easy for him to go inside and cook something up. Though that catfish from earlier had looked rather appetizing... Hmm, fresh fish for breakfast sounded like a capital idea...
"So... Vhy are you all zhe vay out here, Riley? I vould assume you vould be mehr comfortable at dein own base."

Jacque:
The much larger marksman waited patiently till the sliver of dried beef was handed over, his lips curling into a smile. "Thank ya kindly." He stated as he stuffed it into his mouth, large jagged teeth gnawing at the salty treat.

Jacque enjoyed fish more than the birds and small mammals he usually got a hold of, but he preferred eating cooked meals when he got the chance, missing the spices and sugars... He could really go for some boiled crabs right about now really... maybe he could get them all together and organize one...

Would be a nice way to introduce them to the south really.

Riley:

"Welcome..." Before closing the bag, he took out another piece for himself, holding it halfway in his mouth as he stowed the bag into the safety of his larger, soggier one. So wrapped up was he in making sure the duffel bag was fully closed that he almost missed Gerhard's question, turning a few seconds later and giving him a puzzled look. "...Oh," he said after the query has been processed, quickly looking away to stare at the murky water. Hadn't he just answered that question?

Regardless, he gave the Medic the same answer Jacque had received. "Jus' tryin' t'get a feel fer the land is all..." A pause of hesitation. "Not loike the Outback at all," Riley confessed, tapping his fingers rhythmically against his knees.

Gerhard:
"Mmm, gute idee, I should probably try doing zhe same vhen I find zhe time. So far, I really have nicht gone furzzer zhan, vell..."
He voiced a soft chuckle, tapping his clawed fingers on the damp earth of the little island.
"Zhis ist zhe furzzest I've got."
Gerhard could figure that there was another reason for the RED to be out here, but he wasn't of the mind to pry and it was ceasefire, so it wasn't like the Sniper was any threat for the moment. Unless he was a closet serial killer or something, which wouldn't be surprising.
Always got to watch out for the quiet ones...

Jacque:
Jacque obviously wasn't too worried about the RED, he was no harm, and even if he was, he could handle him, he was twice the man's size after all. He yawned, mouth opening wide revealing those jagged razor sharp teeth. Yep, defiantly the teeth of a carnivore.

He laid his head back down and began chewing on the piece of jerky. "Far from it I bet. I heard Australia's got some swamps up north or somethin' but I'm probably wrong. You guy 've got a lotta poisonous critters there too though, I'm sure you'll get used to ours." He smiled a bit.

Riley:
Looking over, Riley's mouth became a thin line at the sight of Jacob's teeth. Not that he didn't have a mouthful of his own, equally sharp teeth but he was loathe to use them against anyone. Idly, he ran his tongue over the back of his reptilian teeth. The croc body attached on the other Sniper's hips was equally intimidating; it was an explosive muscle power that probably deceived onlookers into thinking Jacque was a slow, lumbering beast. Which was what a lot of people thought about crocs.

"Yeah, lot a dangerous critters back home," he agreed, resisting the urge to stretch out in the sunlight. It was warm and inviting but no, he couldn't do it. Not in front of two people. Feeling somewhat reassured by Jacob's warm words, he dipped his head in the direction of the other, trying to widen his meager smile. "Hope so."

Gerhard:

Noticing the RED's abrupt unease, Gerhard quirked a brow and cocked his head, looking up at the skinny Sniper as a tentacle reached forward to gently poke the Australian's knee.
"Herr? Are you alright?"
Enemy team member or not, the BLU Medic had never been able to suppress his more 'maternal' side, and with the addition of enhanced senses, it was just about impossible for him to not notice when someone wasn't feeling well.
